Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The Village is the closest place to dine off campus—unfortunately, it is also the most expensive. Going to eat in Claremont usually involves visiting parents, students who have recently hit the lottery (a rarity), or students who already have decent paying jobs (even more of a rarity). There are some places that aren’t extremely expensive, but the cheapest option is a two-minute drive to the nearest Del Taco. If you’re seeing someone, the restaurants in the Village are a good choice for a sit-down date, that is if you have already grown tired of the outdoor picnic tables at In-N-Out.

Although Claremont tends to be expensive, there are plenty of cheaper and more desirable options if you have a car. Fast food is a few minutes away, and if you feel like it, you can always drive to Los Angeles, where dining options abound. The best off-campus dining for most students, however, occurs during parents’ weekend. And the absence of fast food, a college staple, makes it awfully hard on the wallet to eat off campus regularly for most students. If you can get around the cost, Claremont does offer students a fairly healthy selection, in terms of types of food. From Mexican to Chinese to Italian to wings, there are always options available within a 10-minute drive. For more unusual items, however, you will almost definitely have to make a longer, more exhausting trip.

Mix Bowl Thai Food

So it's a Thai food place that is open 'til 2 am and delivers. The food is not exceptional, but when you're ordering at 1 am because you're cramming for physics, that's not high on your list of concerns. They've got a wide variety of menu options, and they're fairly quick with the delivery (though you'll likely have to walk to their car because they can't drive right up to the dorms). Just don't try to make them deliver to an academic building -- this confuses them.

There are a few good restaurants in the area. Most are in the Village at Claremont, but they can be quite costly. There are also a few places in the surrounding area.

The Village, within walking...

The Village, within walking distance just south of Pomona campus, offers plenty of affordable off-campus dining from nice restaurants to pseudo-fast food places and sandwich shops. There are plenty of other restaurants and fast food places within driving or biking distance. There are pizza and Thai places that deliver to campus. Bua Thai is one of the best restaurants in the Village.
