Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are many different academic programs offered at Hastings, any of which a graduate would be proud to have been a part of. The science department is excellent, especially with its state-of-the-art building and equipment. The fine arts program is good and has a good participation rate, especially for a school of its size. The humanities department is staffed by excellent professors. The business and communications programs work closely to provide a comprehensive study. The education department is outstanding. And the list goes on and on. Classes at Hastings are taught by experienced professors who honestly care how students do in class. Professors make themselves available to students outside of class by posting office hours, and they often even give students their home phone numbers. They will also help find students a qualified tutor or help a student themselves, if needed.

Classes are small, usually between 10 and 20 students, so professors get to know students individually and how to contact them. The downfall is that it is difficult to get away with missing class. You will be missed at Hastings College. The kind of workload a student will have varies depending on major, but it is definitely manageable. Many students are very involved in extracurricular activities and still find time to have multiple majors. Most classes will leave students with some important pieces of knowledge related to their major. Students even get something out of many of the courses they have to take to fulfill their liberal arts requirements, many of which are fun and creative. All in all, the national reviews and awards list Hastings College as a best buy in education and just a “best college” in general. Academically, HC is one of the best around.

My Major

The pre nursing program at Hastings is pretty good. It prepares you to go into some accelerated program at a larger school. I wish that we had more internships.

The Professors at Hastings College

The reason I came to Hastings College is because it felt like home. After I started my classes, I noticed that all of the professors that I have had are great with the students. They know every student they have by name. I had the ability to eat lunch with one of my professors a few weeks ago and we had an hour long conversation. I'm not sure how many other students in college are able to say that about their professors.

Music Ed at Hastings

The Music Education program at Hastings is excellent, it's very busy, and a lot of work, but it is a solid and well respected program. The facilities are a bit out of date, but with funding problems that's to be expected. Curriculum is fitting, the faculty are great, all very skilled and knowledgable. It's a lot of work, but I absolutely love being a part of the Hastings College Music program.
