Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The dorms are conveniently located near the academic buildings, and the campus apartments are a short walk or bike ride from classes. Campus housing is very friendly with an “open door” atmosphere, even in the apartments. It’s especially important to live in the dorms for the first year or two—many students who don’t find they miss out on a lot. Some students dislike that they have to live on campus for three years. On one hand, campus housing is usually paid for with your tuition, so you can bundle it in with your loans and not worry about rent. However, you will pay for it eventually, and the cost is not difficult to meet or beat off campus.

Students can agree on one aspect of the dorms that isn’t so appealing: from 6 p.m. until 12 a.m. on weekdays and until 2 a.m. on weekends, there is a desk-sitter in the lobby of the dorms, and guys have to sign into girls’ rooms and vice versa. After visitation times are up, guys and girls can’t be in each other’s rooms until after 10 a.m. or they’ll receive a hefty fine (this rule doesn’t apply to honors houses or apartments). Anyone can still hang out in the main lobby of Altman after hours because of its coed residency, which is a perk for that dorm. While the downfalls of campus housing may make you think Hastings College tries to hold your hand, the social perks of on-campus housing pretty much trump that sentiment.

The Cleanliness of the Dorms

Hastings College has some of the cleanest dorms I have ever seen. I've been in three of the five dorms and those three are all in great shape.

Great Social Atmosphere.

The dorms are on campus, any dorm is 5 minutes or less from all the buildings. The apartments for juniors and seniors are newer and therefore much nicer, but the only downfall is that they are a couple blocks away from campus.

The dorms are great

I think that the dorms are great. I have met so many people living in all of the different dorms. I’ve been told to avoid Bronc Hall, although I’ve never encountered a problem when I’ve been there. I live in Taylor Hall and absolutely love it. I think that all of the dorms are nice, each with their own spunk. They are all stereotyped, but there are always exceptions.

Cleaning Service

There is a large maintenance staff on campus. Each residence hall and campus building is cleaned daily Monday through Friday. Did You Know?
  • All Hastings College students are required to live on campus until they have senior standing and have lived on campus for six semesters. Students who are part-time, married, single parents, older than 23, have an associate's degree, or who live with a parent/legal guardian in Adams County are exempt from this rule.
  • Students can rank their housing preference on their housing form. Freshmen are required to live in the dorms, but sophomores in good standing can apply to live in an honors house. If there is room, one unit in the Bronco Apartments will be set aside for sophomores and will be designated as non-alcoholic. Most sophomores stay in the dorms, most juniors live in an honors house or the Bronco Apartments, and seniors have the option of moving off campus.
  • Every dorm has a Resident Director, an adult who lives there full-time. There is also a Resident Assistant on every floor of every dorm, and this upperclass student lives there and is responsible for enforcing dorm rules.
  • Students living in the dorms and honors houses are required to have a weekly meal plan on campus. Students living in the on-campus apartments or off campus are not required to have a meal plan, but students can purchase a weekly meal plan or the more popular 60-block meal plan to be used at any time.
