Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The practice of dating is a foreign concept to most Hastings College students. They’re either single or clearly in a relationship, but not often in between. Sure, your roommate may have the occasional late-night visitor, but even if it’s just a one-time visit, guys and girls don’t often bounce around between love interests in a short amount of time. Everyone knows everyone, so it’s hard to keep a secret. Most people are pretty territorial about their friends, too. Hell hath no fury like a lover scorned, but at Hastings, you have to be on the lookout for their friends, as well.

There is a good availability of guys and girls at Hastings College, many of which you would be proud to take home to meet the parents. Even if you don’t date them, both the guys and girls make for pretty nice company. Students who have gotten together at Hastings must have mistaken the Chapel bells for wedding bells because there have been many HC alumni, and even some current students, who walked down the aisle together right around the time they walked down the aisle in their caps and gowns. What you see is pretty much what you get out of guys and girls at Hastings College, and there is definitely plenty to be had by all.

Aww Yeah

There's a wide variety of guys on campus. All of the guys are nice and easy to be around. They also don't dress trashy and are unclean.

Lots of participation in extracurriculars

A very high percentage of our student population is involved in extracurricular activities whether it’s with athletics, theater, music or drama.

Guys are very well mannered

Most of the guys are well mannered. They open doors, say hi, and are pretty respectful. You can tell a lot of HC guys were raised in small towns where manners were a must. Your typical HC student is very busy being involved in sports, music, or clubs. Most of us are in a variety of those things; we are all well rounded.

Social Scene

There is often something going on somewhere in Hastings, especially on the weekends. If you find yourself bored, chances are everyone else is bored, as well. You have to try pretty hard to miss out on joining some kind of social scene at Hastings College. There are always parties on the weekends. Everyone knows everyone, so there is a mingling of many different groups of people. There are also prevalent social scenes for those that don’t prefer the party scene. You can meet someone just about anywhere at Hastings College: in class, at the cafeteria, through a friend, in the dorms, through extracurricular activities, or at a party. After a while, you will most likely see the same people at different places around campus.

Hookups or Relationships?

There is no such thing as “dating” at Hastings College. You’re either single or in a relationship. There is a good amount of each, as well as a pretty even number of guys and girls. Again, everyone knows mostly everyone, so it’s not hard to find out who’s free, who’s taken, and who to stay away from.

Dress Code

Students dress for just about everything, ranging from class to going out to preppy to workout attire. Students wear jeans or khakis, printed tees or T-shirts, sweaters or sweatshirts, and even athletic pants or shorts. There are, however, a few special occasions throughout the year when students get dolled up for the night. Overall, the dress code is about as diverse as the student body, but completely appropriate for the exciting life of Hastings.
