Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Hastings is a friendly place with a welcoming community. Everything is easy to find and located close enough to campus. There is bowling, movies, mini-golf, go-karts, and other outdoor activities when the weather permits. The shopping is lacking, aside from small downtown shops, and there isn’t a large variety of nice restaurants. There are a handful of bars that are well attended by of-age students, but there are no clubs or dance spots, and little for the under-21 crowd. Students go to nearby Grand Island, Kearney, Omaha, and Lincoln on occasion. In recent years, there have been more and more students going home on the weekends. But not to worry—if you stick around, there will still be plenty of people to hang out with in Hastings.

Hastings isn’t the most exciting place in the world, but it definitely offers enough and has nearby access to enough activities to keep broke college students happy. The campus offers the best activities for students, either for special occasions like Homecoming or through one of the many student organizations. There are dances, speakers, magicians, various talent shows, sporting events, fine arts events, and many themed parties. But most students usually just hang out, enjoy the company of friends and neighbors, and treasure some good old free time.

Not as Boring as You Would Think

Hastings may be small, but with just a little creativity and motivation- it's not boring. There are plenty of locally-owned eclectic shops to visit as well as name brand retailers. There a unique eating options like the all natural bakery "Back Alley Bakery" and a the first Eileen's Cookies.

The town is also rich with History. It has its own 3 story museum and many cultural events. It's even the birthplace of Kool-Aid.

The small town atmosphere is also relaxing.

Very Loving

Hastings College isn't in a very big town but the town backs hasting college very well. They are so supportive of the sportting events or music events that are going on. There isn't much to do in town but the campus always has things to do there. I really enjoy going to school there.

The town is kind of boring

The town is kind of boring, and most of my experiences on campus were, too. There are one or two things you can do in town, but you need to have a car (or a friend’s car) to get to some places.
