Honor Code

Haverford's Honor Code has, in addition to the traditional academic portion, which condemns cheating and plagiarism, a social component, which is meant to ensure that students treat each other with respect and dignity. This leads to a civil and friendly body of students who value ethics highly in both their personal and academic lives. Furthermore, the Code is reviewed by the student body twice-yearly: students propose amendments and vote on ratification. And all Honor Code violations are brought before a jury composed of randomly selected students, to ensure fairness and to give the offender's peers a voice in his or her fate.

This place is perfect. It's gorgeous, the people are all extremely smart and value academia (learning for the sake of learning) and quirky. We all recognize our faults and embrace it. It isn't out of the ordinary to see someone wearing something that would get the strangest look anywhere else and just thinking, "That person is so cool and confident for doing that." This place is like what you wish the world would be like. Students run everything. It's great.

Facts

Traditions
  • Drag Ball: An infamous Haverford dance featuring guys dressed up as women and girls dressed up as either guys or sluts. Students who don’t care to dress as anything also show up normally, which is okay.
  • Haverfest: The aforementioned orgy of food, music, and liquor that occurs during the first weekend before finals week. Students drink during the day, lay out on Founders Green, and take in the sun. This is a lot of fun, until it ends and everyone has to take finals.
  • La Fiesta: Very popular dance held by the Latino organization on campus (ALAS). There is an excellent DJ and Founder’s Great Hall suddenly takes on a chic, new look.
  • Screw: Haverford hosts an annual “Screw Your Roommate” dance (Screw for short) at which students set their roommates or friends up with another person. Dates are arranged such that both parties are given half of a corny “skit” to perform at a large assembly where the blind dates meet each other.
Urban Legends
  • All freshmen are thrown in the duck pond.
  • Chevy Chase brought a cow up to the 4th floor of Barclay.
  • Haverford students are all extremely hardworking.
  • Nobody gets a job after graduation.
  • The endowment is invested entirely in Quaker-owned businesses.
