Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

On the whole, students are satisfied with their experience at Haverford. Most seniors look back on their Haverford education with a distinctive appreciation. It is a fondness that comes from understanding how profoundly the College has changed them. Haverford teaches its students more than just school subjects: it teaches them to lead honorable lives. Students feel that they have learned just as much from each other and the Haverford community as they have from their courses and professors. Many alumni do not realize the scope of their education until years later, but the impact is almost always felt. In this way, Haverford is unique.

Academically, the school has a spirit of reflective intellectualism that discourages students from becoming too detached from the real world. Social relations are guided by honor and civility. The student body generally has a sense of purpose and perspective and knows how to relax while tackling a challenging school curriculum. Granted, Haverford is not for everyone. Extreme partiers will not be happy here, nor will those who have no thirst for learning. Haverford’s small size and rigorous classes will quickly make for an unwelcome atmosphere if you don’t accept them. Also, the school can get suffocating if you don’t get out of town once in awhile. However, if you’re looking for a place where everyone knows everyone else’s name, where the college president will meet with you on a moment’s notice about anything, and where students bond over the heavy (but manageable) workload, Haverford is a terrific choice.

There are a lot of things about...

There are a lot of things about this school that I like: the sense of community, the Honor Code, the fact that professors really care about you. There are people here that I am certain I will love for the rest of my life. When it comes down to it, Haverford is academically hard and perhaps socially awkward, but it has transformed me in so many ways that is impossible not to be attached to it. Sometimes, I wish I was somewhere else, but then I realize I don’t have time to be thinking about that because I need to study.

My experience here, so far, has been wonderful. The College is challenging and has pushed me to work hard. However, I have still had time to develop friendships and relationships, and this balance is typical of a Haverford student.
