College Prowler Take
Haverford students generally have a good relationship with the Safety and Security Department. The campus is safe, though it’s open to the public during the daytime, and there are occasional petty thefts. Most of these thefts occur within the Haverford College Apartments. The apartments are located on the south part of campus in Ardmore, a working-class neighborhood that is a bit poorer than the surrounding communities (which are extraordinarily wealthy). Security is also notified of all public parties and is very good about taking sick students to the hospital without notifying the police of underage drinking or drug use. Because of this, nobody fears calling security if someone needs medical attention. This policy is preferable to the “zero tolerance” attitude at most colleges, where drinking is always done behind closed doors, and students can get in trouble for calling security if a friend needs to get his stomach pumped. This is not to say that we have very many cases of people binge drinking, but when something does happen, it’s nice to know that help is available. It’s important to remember that going into Philadelphia is another matter entirely. Provided you know where you are at all times, however, Philadelphia should present little more personal risk than campus does. The general feeling of well-being is part of Haverford’s community atmosphere and is a great reflection on the school’s Honor Code.

Haverford is the safest place I...
Haverford is the safest place I ever been. There have been a few incidents, but problems are extremely rare. I have never had any problems. I’m a small girl, but I feel comfortable enough to be walking by myself really late at night without any worries. |

Safety and Security is on campus,...
Safety and Security is on campus, but they stay behind the scenes and do not disrupt daily life. However, in a time of need, they are at the scene necessary in a heartbeat and are helpful. |

Security at Haverford is lenient,...
Security at Haverford is lenient, but we are still very safe. Although, this year, there seems to be a few more missing items than in years past, you don’t feel unsafe, ever. |
