Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

On-campus housing at High Point is incredible! All of the dorms have either been recently renovated or are brand-new. Living at High Point is unlike living in any other college dorm. The college housing is beautifully maintained, spacious, and upgraded. Even the standard dorms on campus are nicer than what most college students live in during all four years of school. All on-campus housing is extremely convenient when it comes to getting to and from classes. Since High Point is a smaller school, the longest walk you might have from your dorm to class would be about 10 minutes, walking at a leisurely pace from one side of campus to the other. The University Center is probably the most convenient location in which to live. Encased in one huge building are three different eateries, a movie theater, arcade, and a study floor. Also, since the campus is so rapidly expanding, the UC moves ever closer to becoming the actual center of campus.

If you live off campus, it is a little less convenient to get to class, but that’s only because you have to drive or take the trolley. If you live off campus, then it is beneficial to have your car at school with you so you can come and go from campus as you please. If you don’t have a car or just don’t feel like having one at school, then taking the trolley is an easy way to get where you need to go, as long as you plan ahead and check the schedule for when it’s arriving and where.

Extraordinary!

I lived in the standard dorms (no extra cost) last year and even they were definitely miles above what you would see for freshman dorms at most schools.

Best Thing About HPU

Campus housing and campus dining are the two best things about High Point University. Campus housing is far better and more pampering than the average college student needs. Each dorm has its perks. In terms of freshman housing, the Complex may not be the nicest but it is one of the more friendly dorms on campus and is the best for meeting new people. The UC also has a better community feeling, but is very loud. York Hall, the honors and athletic housing, is fantastic, although sometimes it's harder to get to know people because of the quiet hours and single-room set-up. The 24/7 quiet hours are great though considering most of the dorms on campus are pretty loud, especially the UC and apartments. During freshman year, almost everyone runs into some sort of roommate issue.

Did You Know? Housing is great and usually easy for everyone except for sophomores. Since they're lowest on the ladder when it comes to credits, they get the last pick for housing. Although things generally work out and people get moved around to places they actually want to be, it can be a bit stressful.
