Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

High Point students are definitely a good-looking bunch. The average student is attractive, preppy, and well dressed. Guys are generally seen in Sperrys, button-downs, and khakis. Girls, because of the warm weather, can often be seen in sundresses, shorts, skirts, and cute tops. Popular brands for girls are Lilly Pulitzer, Vineyard Vines, along with some more obscure boutiques. When going to class, students dress to impress. You will very rarely see students walking around in sweatpants and sweatshirts, unless they’re headed to the gym or it's finals week. Typical going-out apparel for girls is basically the same—just tighter and in darker colors.

The ratio at HPU is awesome if you’re a guy. When you’re out at night, you can almost count on there being at least three girls for every one guy. For girls, this makes dating competitive and difficult. Many freshman guys choose not to become involved in a relationship and spend most of their first year exploring their options. While relationships do exist at HPU, many students choose to remain single their freshman year, have casual hookups, or date someone from a different school. Dating someone on campus is more common with upperclassmen.

Who Go to HPU

The students that attend HPU are a lot of city kids or kids whose parents have money. Their social lives consist of either Athletics, Greek Life and then you have those that are just into their own things. Kids dress in all types of styles and from different places but you can tell the kids who are Greek and who are not. The students are really involved on campus in all aspects; in everything from athletics to greek life and student council there is a diverse number of kids that do all of the following. At times it can be intimidating to be around kids who like to flash money (that is some kids but not all) but it just takes some time to adjust.

You will find vast diversity at HPU. There are skater boys and girls and then preppy boys and girls who where Lily Pulizter and vinyard vines everyday. A lot of the people are from the North so I don't think they have the southern hospitality and niceness of Southern men and women. Guys rarely hold the door for a girl but there are attractive girls and boys here and there are always a few not so attractive.

Come from Money

Everyone seems to come from money and the girls are all cute and the guys are all lax bros. Regardless of what they come from, every one is nice, decently smart and knows how to chug.

Social Scene

First-semester students are very outgoing and generally excited to meet new people and explore different party scenes. Mostly everyone goes to the frats on the weekends and will party-hop from one house to another. There are also parties in the apartments, usually run by the different frats that live there, and in the dorms and off-campus housing (The Village, Terrace apartments, and townhomes). The second semester is a bit more divided because of the influence of Greek life. There are a lot more closed parties second semester, but they generally open up around 12 a.m. People begin partying on Wednesday night either by going to bars or clubs in the area or in an apartment somewhere on campus.

Hookups or Relationships?

Relationships at High Point span the spectrum. There are students who are blissfully single and are only looking for random hookups, and there are also freshmen who are engaged to be married. The most common relationships on campus are hookups and relationships with people from different schools. While there are couples on campus, many students choose to date from home and/or nearby schools. Girls and guys are definitely open to relationships, but they aren't in any hurry to settle down and get serious unless they know they've found someone special.

Dress Code

High Point is definitely a school with an attractive and presentable student body. There are people who dress very preppy, which is the majority of the campus, in Lilly Pulitzer, Vineyard Vines, and Ralph Lauren, to name a few brands. Most of the guys wear pastel shirts and shorts with Sperrys, while girls wear sundresses and generally look nice 99 percent of the time. There is the small percentage of people who wear sweats to class, and while this is acceptable, at least for morning classes, it's not common. When going out, most girls wear jeans and a nighttime top or dress with heels or cute flats/sandals. Guys wear button-downs and polos with shorts/jeans and Sperrys/sneakers.
