Geneva weather doesn't make sense, it can be 60 degrees and sunny and then snowing with brutal winds in the same day. Generally expect to say goodbye to the sun in October and not expect to see it again till may. And the wind... No one can prepare you for the icy winds off the lake.

some decent restaurants and a few hidden gems, most places are overpriced for the quality

I knew what I was getting myself into, I was against going here, and while I still have my resentments It has been a great experience. I would love HWS if wasn't for the weather and the people, they put a damper on the amazing academic opportunities offered by the great professors and abundance of on and off campus programs and connections designed to give students and edge. If you want to make the most of HWS and enjoy your time here you need to be active and motivated to engage yourself both academically and socially. Otherwise the cliques, social pressure, entitlement, and monotony will make your time miserable-- like the weather.

The school overall is extremely connected and promotes the fact that its alumni network is present in everything. Getting into classes for your major can be frustrating and difficult, but the variety of options and diversity of subject matters make up for it.

Profs. are great and will push you. Students know how to work and get good grades but an overall lack of intellectual intensity or people that care about anything more than getting a good grade.

Geneva is ok there is some tension between the locals and the students. But it is a really small town.

All of the parking options are pretty good unless you're a freshman. If you are then you have to park at the farthest parking lot but other than that all of the parking options are pretty good.

Geneva weather is impossible to predict. It can be windy, rainy, sunny, and snowing all in the same day.

I love my major and department! The professors are extremely passionate about what their craft and are always encouraging you to develop as a critical writer and intellectual. This department encompasses a good range of other subjects taught on campus, which is appealing because it provides the student with a well-rounded knowledge base. So many great things about this major!

I'm a HEOP student, which is the Higher Education Opportunity Program. This program is designed to provide talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds with both financial and academic support throughout their undergraduate years. This program sounds like a great opportunity, right? It is, however, like all forms of affirmative action there will be those who stigmatize it's entirety. This is something that I have personally dealt with during my time here at the colleges. I've heard things like, "You're a writing major?" "That's new, there aren't that many black writing majors." Also, "HEOP students don't deserve to be at HWS because they did not work as hard as everyone else did to get here." These sorts of ignorant commentary provide me with a motivation to succeed here at the colleges in an exceptional manner.

The internship that I had this past summer involved working as a College Coach for College Bound Initiative- a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the gap and ensuring that more students of color are enrolling in college, and once there, succeeding. I was assigned to work at my former high school, The Brooklyn School for Global Studies. My duties entailed setting up timely meetings with the students to discuss potential college options, assisting in the college application process, keeping a daily log of students progress, contacting college reps, and planning college trips. That was a mouthful, and believe me when I tell you that it is hard work. The amount of time that you spend in the lives of these students is unreal, but worth it in the end. I have learned and picked up key skills that are necessary in any endeavor. Things like communication, planning, and managing are all things I never knew I had the potential to posses.

HWS is comprised of a variety of races, religions, and economic backgrounds. However, that is not to say that HWS should be dubbed "diverse." Although HWS displays some diversity on charts and graphs on their website, once you step foot on campus the numbers seem non existent. A blur on the radar if you will. Naturally, this type of ratio creates some kind of tension-both racially and in matters of privilege, but in the end we all are going to experience some form of racial tension so we might as well endure and conquer it now.

The Majors at HWS provide students with the opportunity to gain an in-depth perspective of their intended field of study. Also, the majors here at the colleges encourage students to be innovative and autonomous. Essentially, creating products of application.

Athletics are a great way to get to know new people and enjoy great games in our top of the line facilities. Everyone has a great time and, when it comes to our Division I lacrosse team, we really get loud.
College Sophomore 2013-08-13T20:02:06Z
Our new athletic center is state of the art and serves as the hub of student activity. There is also a wonderful turf outdoor field as well as a field just for soccer games right in the heart of campus.

There are a lot of different food options, though the main dining hall has the best (and most) food.

There are a lot of rules that have almost no explanation as well as severe punishments for breaking the smallest of rules
