All they do is throw parties, not many people join them

The frats are the basic location for people who got out on weekends and don't head downtown. You can count on there being a party at one of them very weekend night. They don't dominate the social scene or demand attention like they do at other schools, so whether you want that in a school or not is up to you. Basically they're there if you want them, and if not, you don't really care, but most people end up at them for a night out at some point.

a lot of people view greek life as people who think they are better than everyone else. Although this is not always true, a good amount of people see it that way

Lots of Opportunities, Present, but Not Critical – The greek life on campus is fantastic. Many of the fraternities have fairly differentiated groups of people, so if you wish to be in a fraternity, you'll likely find one that suits you. Otherwise, you can lead a great tenure at HWS without. I'm in a fraternity, but I have many friends who are not, and it works out well. There are no sororities on campus, but that is not because the administration disallows them. Every few years the women of William Smith (the women students on campus) have the opportunity to vote on whether there should be sororities, and every time they vote it down.

Frats are okay for boys I guess, but no greek life for girls
