College Prowler Take
Nassau County may be one of the most densely populated areas in the country, but when you’re on a campus with thousands of other students, who’s going to notice? Just as several students pointed out, there’s seldom a dull moment around here, especially when the weather is nice. The only drawback is that you really do need to have a car in order to have the freedom of exploring all there is to do. Without one, your only option is to take a bus or cab around, or of course you can get good at begging and bribing others for rides. It’s not that things are so spread out, but it’s nothing like being in the city and having the ability to walk around everywhere.
Among some of the great activities to do locally are the three great music venues we have nearby. The Nassau Coliseum hosts innumerable events throughout the year, including not just live concerts, but also ice skating and wrestling. The Westbury Music Fair is a much smaller venue, perfect for those seeking the smaller, more laid-back shows where it is easier to just sit back and relax. Most people’s favorite place to go for a show is only open half of the year; the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater is a 15,000-seat stadium that hosts major musical events all through the spring and summer. This concert venue will instantly make your choice of coming to Long Island seem worth it. There’s honestly nothing to enjoy more than drinking on the beach all day and catching a show at night. And this is all for extremely reasonable prices. One thing you can count on here is that entertainment will never be limited.

The local atmosphere around here...
The local atmosphere around here is great. It’s a perfect mix between a small city type atmosphere and smaller communities, not to mention we’re so close to the beach and several state parks. It’s very common on nice days to find your fellow students over at Eisenhower Park picnicking or to run into them down at the beach. This is a very hard place to get bored. |

A lot of times, you’ll hear people say that they came to Hofstra because it’s close to the city or because it’s close to the beach. I came here because the bars are open until four, and you can buy beer 24 hours a day. |

I love when the spring comes and it gets nice enough to skip class, go to the beach all day, and get to the city at night. And then still get home in time to do it again the next day. |

When other people ask me what it’s...
When other people ask me what it’s like here, the first thing that normally pops into my head is all the restaurants. You can literally find any type of cuisine for a reasonable price. And afterwards, you can always find a good bar or nightclub to go to. It’s not like where I’m from where all you can choose from is a couple of local holes in the wall. |

We have Nassau Community and...
We have Nassau Community and Adelphi right down the street, and a bunch of my friends go to those two schools, so for me it’s not much different than high school; we still hang out at all the same places and do the same things. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I love this area; I’ve been here all my life. |

• In 1909, Hempstead, Long Island, the town in which Hofstra resides, would earn the nickname, “the cradle of aviation,” as the flat plains made for a natural airfield. With the approaching world wars, the area became the foremost training grounds for Army aviators.
• Roosevelt Field, now the site of endless shopping and dining possibilities, is the site where Charles Lindbergh launched the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean to Paris.

• Besides all of the major sports teams associated with New York, Long Island is becoming more and more famous for the other sporting events it hosts.
