The buffet-style cafeteria at Hollins has been known to get creative. Students have reported such delicacies as sloppy joe quesadillas, French toast with parsley, baked apples with cheese, bacon and peanut butter sandwiches, grilled cheese and apple sandwiches, s’more quesadillas, pizza hamburgers, cheeseburger pizza with mustard and ketchup on top, and smashed hot dog buns posing as dinner rolls. Hey, at least they promote recycling. Can you imagine letting those hot dog buns go to waste?
Most students agree: The cafeteria food is not worth the price. Sure, sometimes the dining hall serves something delicious, like baked chicken or lasagna, and you can always find pizza, French fries, hamburgers, sandwiches, ice cream, and salad. Plus, the dining staff are friendly and will prepare you special food if you ask. But after a few weeks of eating the same greasy stir-fry or flavorless pasta dish every night, students start to get homesick for mom and dad's cooking.
To further frustrate students, Hollins requires that all resident students pay for the meal plan unless they have special medical conditions. Luckily, if students get sick of the cafeteria or miss meal times, they can head downstairs to The Rat, a snackbar where they can use flex dollars (included in the meal plan) to buy sandwiches, quesadillas, burgers, sodas, and candy. Many students also spend flex dollars at Jazzman's Café, where they can buy coffee, tea, and pastries. Still, many students feel that paying for the meal plan is a waste of their money, especially if they want to prepare their own food.

Fatty Food Rush
Imagine what limited vegetables taste like if the fatty fast food is gross. I recommend going off the meal plan.

The Worst Part
Moody is not ideal. Sodexo is not ideal. There are some days where I question who comes up with the recipes - and there have been many times where I have found non-food items in the food. I have crunched down on a piece of glass in rice, and I have found a blue rubber band in another rice dish. Only very very recently have they given different ratios of Moody meals to money for the Rat, and even then, the Rat is still moody food, just as unhealthy and just as bad. I wish we had options that WEREN'T sodexo, or at least an option that is Sodexo but is a higher rank, Virginia Tech has the number one campus food in the country and they had Sodexo - why are we getting the bad stuff? There are days where I am ill for the rest of the day from eating in Moody, but I can't say it is 100 percent, 24/7 terrible. There are a few things there that I love, like when they have Stroganoff (which theyve had all of four times since I've been there - and I'm a senior now) Meat ravioli (which they had ONCE) and the eclair cake.

Good for Vegetarians, Okay for Everyone Else
There is only one dining plan offered, however its variety isn't bad, and even caters towards the vegans and vegetarians very well. Lots of options there, but as for meat, they tend to cook chicken a thousand different ways. However for carnivores like myself, plan to spend some money out-of-pocket just to get a break from the redundancy of chicken.
