Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

In 2008, Hollins was honored as eighth in the nation in the “Top 20 Wired Colleges” by PC Magazine and The Princeton Review. Most students were very confused as to how Hollins rated so well because the wireless Internet goes out so often and the printers always jam or run out of toner, especially when your class starts in two minutes and you haven't printed out your research paper yet. However, the campus replaces most computers on campus every three years, keeping all the labs up to date.

Most students bring their own laptops, but many people manage just fine without one. With several large computer labs on campus, you can always find a computer to work on, and you don't have to worry about spotty Wi-Fi. If you do bring your own laptop, you can take it to the IT Help Desk when it has problems, though you should do so with caution. The techs are very talented and work very hard, but they've been known to install software or even replace hard drives without permission.

Computers at Hollins

Computers on campus are highly accessible but most students carry personal computers and printers. They are far easier. The network is often very slow and frustrating, but a mere hindrance to get WiFi. It is not a huge problem if you do not own a personal computer or printer, but it is far easier and more cost efficient.

Excellent Availability

Excellent WiFi offered campus wide, and multiple computer labs! The only problem are the printers which are more often than not, broken.

Computer Labs Are Pretty Good

Sometimes the printers don't receive the information from the computers correctly. This can be highly vexing, especially if you have to turn it in within the next ten minutes.
