Well, this is awkward. Were you hoping to live off campus? Hollins requires students to live on campus all four years. This requirement exists to encourage students to engage in the Hollins community; students are much more likely to join clubs and attend campus events if they live on campus than if they have to commute across town. The residency rule is one reason Hollins is such a tight-knit community. There are, however, a few exceptions to the rule: if the student is over 23 years old, if the student's parent/guardian lives within 40 miles of campus, if the student is married or has children, or if the student has a special medical condition.
For people who can't stand the thought of living in a dorm and using a hall bathroom for four years, never fear: Hollins offers university apartments across the street from campus. They cost the same amount as living in the dorms but are much larger. Each apartment has a living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, one double room, and either one or two single rooms. The apartments are about an eight-minute walk from class buildings, and they still offer great amenities like Wi-Fi and cable. If you wanted to save money by finding your own place, maybe you should look at some larger schools. On the other hand, if you're looking for an active, tight-knit student body, Hollins might be the place for you.
