Parking Permits

All students can obtain a parking permit through Campus Safety. You will be assigned certain zones in which you will have permission to park. Upperclassmen have access to the best spots.

College Prowler Take

All Hollins students are allowed to bring a car to campus. All you have to do is register with it Campus Safety, pay your $50, slap on your decal, and you’re good to go. Your decal will indicate which lots you can park in and which ones you can’t. Juniors and seniors get access to the best spots. However, parking is available for everyone. First-years and sophomores are pretty much relegated to the West Lot, nicknamed Siberia to denote its relative distance to the main parts of campus, but the walk from West lot to the first-year dorms is only about five minutes. While most students complain about this distance during the winter, it’s still better than most parking situations at large schools. On the weekends, students can park in the conveniently located faculty lots.

Parking regulations on campus are strictly enforced. It’s not worth the risk of parking illegally in the end, because Campus Safety officers make hunting down these parking offenders their favorite pastime. However, if you do acquire a parking ticket that you don’t feel is justified, there is a handy appeal process. The best advice is just to park where you are supposed to. Parking is easy everywhere off campus, except for downtown Roanoke during the week. Time limits on good spots are very short. However, most of those time limits aren’t in effect on the weekends, which is when most students venture downtown. If you plan on making the town of Roanoke a big part of your college experience, bringing your own car is a huge help.

The parking is not terrible because the campus is small, but it is inconveniently located in the back of the campus, behind the practice fields. As a freshman, you are permitted to bring a car and park in the far parking lot.

Freshmen can bring a car, but you'll be forced to park in Siberia, the parking lot farthest from campus. This shouldn't be too much of a problem because you'll be living in the dorms closest to Siberia. Upperclassmen get better parking spaces by dint of seniority. Just wait a few years and the coveted parking will be yours.

Everyone can bring a car. Compared to other campuses, parking is not bad. We have more cars than spaces, but overall it could be a lot worse.

Everyone can bring a car, and parking is fine. A lot of people complain that the main parking lot (for freshman, sophomores, and juniors) is far away, but anyone going to a big school would laugh because it's really a short walk to the lot.

It’s very easy to park. It is much more convenient than at big schools. It’s also less confusing. When you get your decal, it will tell you exactly what lots you can use and when you can use them. The lots are clearly marked, and there aren’t a lot of signs on the side of the road with confusing parking rules on them. Visitors can park pretty much where ever they want to on campus. That makes it easy when you have guests or when your parents come to visit. Technically, I think you are supposed to alert Campus Safety when you are having a visitor with a car. But if it’s only a short visit, it doesn’t seem to matter too much. Anyway, even if they do end up with a ticket, Campus Safety won’t pursue collecting the money from someone who is not a student.
