They Try Really Hard

I do have to give these ladies credit--they try really hard to get you the aid you need. I had somewhat of a complicated situation and couldn't qualify for federal work-study, but was in need of a job, so they gave me a job funded by almunae money instead.

Alright...

Hollins Offers a lot of financial aid. I recieved $15,0000 simply for my academic performance in high school as well as my ACT scores. UI have heard that some students have had problems with the financial aid office though. The financial aid office can be slow with paperwork along with the approval process for some students. I know a few girls who had to transfer just because their financial aid wasn't going through.

Financial Aid at Hollins University

Up until my last year financial aid seemed to help out a lot. But since I transferred in a bunch of credits when I came to the school, my last year I only had to go half-time. So I did not recieve a lot of aid and my parents was not eligable to increase their "parent-plus loan" not even for the minimum $5000 that we needed. I have to find a way to come out of pocket to pay that amount. It didn't matter how great my fathers credit was...they would not allow it!

Advice on Financial Aid

Though private schools seem to have big price tags, usually they have more financial aid to give out than public schools do. If you've performed well academically in high school, try to get your application for admission in by January 13 to be eligible to compete for the Batten Scholar Award, a full-tuition scholarship. Other merit-based scholarships include the Hollins Scholar Award ($16,000–$19,000 per year), the Hollins Recognition Award ($7,500–$15,000 per year), and the Creative Talent Award (up to $5,000 per year). Also, make sure to fill out your FAFSA, which will determine how much you will receive in need-based grants, loans, and student employment. Don't worry about financial aid too much yet. Hollins will send you all the information you need when you submit your application.
