The only vehicle you need to get around Hollins is your own two feet. Actually, even if you only had one foot, you’d probably still get around easily; the campus is pretty small. Some students ride bikes, especially if they live across the street in the apartments, and some of the horseback riders drive up to the barn because it’s a little farther away than most buildings on campus, but most people get along fine without a bike or car.
If you need to travel off campus, grab the free Hollins shuttle to Valley View Mall and downtown Roanoke. It leaves from the Moody parking lot every hour on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m., and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. As long as your shopping whims correspond with these times, you’ll be fine. No city buses stop anywhere near Hollins. The only public transportation that runs to another college town is the Smart Way bus to Virginia Tech, which you can catch downtown for $4 each way. Unfortunately, it only runs between Monday and Saturday morning, so it doesn’t do much good for party-seekers.
Planning a long-distance trip? Roanoke has a both an airport and Greyhound bus station. Students who live in Northern Virginia often catch the Home Ride Shuttle, which runs at Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Breaks. Round trip tickets cost around $100. Some students also take Amtrak trains from Lynchburg and, as of July 2011, can catch a Smart Way bus to get to the station.

You'd Better Have a Car
Hollins have shuttle on Wed & Thu. night from 6pm to 10pm, Fri form 6pm to 12am and Sat from 12pm to 12am every hour. It goes to the only mall in Ronaoke and Downtown Ronoake. We also can call cab and we have a voucher that the money go through to our hollins account directly.

Transportation
We have a school sponsored shuttle. It is free and only allows Hollins students to ride. It runs to the mall and to downtown on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6 pm to 10 pm, on Fridays from 6 pm to midnight, and on Saturdays from noon to midnight. It's fairly convenient but I would love to see more stops and earlier times during the week.
