Although some profs are lackluster, the good ones (Brother John Tryon, and Brother Nich Perez, to name a couple) are absolutely phenomenal.

Although it's a dry campus, everyone drinks casually within their dorms. Weed and Adderall are rampant. Quite a few kids partake in harder party drugs as well.

The business office is entirely inept. Thank God Regina Slonskey has been brought in to run the Financial Aid office. One of the women that works in the business office was in a Business Law class with me last semester. I out-debated her on a regular basis, as she was a complete idiot. This same woman saw it fit to deny me a voucher for books during the previous semester. What a mess.

Health & Safety:
Holy Cross is split down the middle to two extremes. Everyone is either a saint or an alcoholic and/or druggy. Things can get a bit sketchy as a result.

The campus is pretty strict when it comes to drinking and curfew and other things. But I think because it is a catholic institution, the rules are a bit tighter. I think that the students are mixed between people who like the rules and people who would much rather do without a lot of them. I think they still assume it is college and the rules and policies would not be as strict.

Great scholarships, but should definitely make more academic scholarships available. nonetheless i've recieved the best and I'm grateful for it.
College Sophomore 2013-05-16T16:07:57Z
There is no need to get to school early to find parking. there is always and available spot.
College Sophomore 2013-05-16T16:06:03Z
Notre Dame, In has the best off-campus housing selection, everything is so close to school so theres no need to worry and there is always availibility!

It's way better than my high school cafeteria food.

They look for ways to make the school more diverse.

I received two $2,000 scholarships from Holy Cross College and a grant. They're helping me out as much as they can. Financial aid is a big help also.

I don't know much about Holy Cross Transportation. Since I live off-campus and usually walk to or from school.
College Freshman 2013-01-15T21:14:53Z
The South Dining Hall is amazing, since Holy Cross is apart of Notre Dame, you get the same dining privileges as the ND students!

Underage drinking is not tolerated and the use of illegal drugs.

During the day, it can be frustrating trying to find a spot in the residential lot because many of the commuters park there illegally. However should you get a spot in the residential lot you're 20 seconds from any building on campus.
Health & Safety:
I'm not sure how, but the school somehow gets away with not having a health center or even a nurses station on campus. Better have a car if you need to see a doctor or get a prescription filled.

Men's hockey is fun to watch and the proximity to Notre Dame allows for students to attend many Irish events for free. Not a bad deal.

This grade is one that the school can't necessarily help due to the financial constraints Holy Cross is under. If you are looking for grants or fellowships to pursue research or further your academic career, they simply don't have the money to give you. Unfortunately you will find that a severe lack of funding negatively affects many departments on campus.

Most pre-reqs can be over-ridden if you have a good enough reason to take the class. Burzycki really knows his stuff as an adviser and can get you your degree early if you declare your freshman year.
College Junior 2012-11-29T04:41:27Z
Only a hand full of classes actually challenge students and engage them in learning. Most can be breezed through without a second thought. History is the saving grace of the school as it is actually nationally ranked.
College Junior 2012-11-29T04:38:44Z
The problem with a small school is that you will often have the same professor teach the majority of classes for their respective majors. So if they're awful then you're stuck with them. However it is not difficult to get in touch with faculty if you need to. If you want to actually be challenged and learn something, take any classes offered by Tryon, Perez, or Van Auken.

They often don't work and when they do the IT staff will be sure to run an update that ruins that. You will constantly find yourself needing to login and reauthenticate your computer with the WiFi that is always going in and out. If you need to actually do work or get much of anything done, go over to Notre Dame. Avoid St. Mary's because they have their own issues technologically as well.

If you're looking to be challenged and engaged in your learning, don't come here. If you want easy classes then this is your place.

Progressivism Philosophy of Education – What is Progressivism? Progressivism philosophy in education is related to young students of education. This philosophy explains that students should plan ideas by being actively involved. By definition, it is a form of educational philosophy that sees nature as ever-changing. Because the world is always changing and new situations require new problems, learners must develop as problem solvers. Like romanticism, the progressive education advocates of the progressive viewpoint believe that people are naturally exploring, inquiring entitles. When faced with an obstacle, they would try to find a way to overcome it. Someday, I would want to be hired as a teacher so that I can show others that I care about the students earning an education. I would want to tell them my experiences as a student and help them understand the processes of going to the next level.
I believe that the beginning of education is when the students would want to be more involved with nature itself. The main goal for the teachers is to identify what each student likes to do with their interests or challenge their concerns. Once they are noticed, then the teachers would fix the problems or achieve more challenges to the student's interests. From my point of view, active teachers provide skills so that students can learn by following the procedures. If I was a teacher, I would want to help the students develop strategies of bring success to the subjects that I would teach. The focus for me is to teach students on how to think rather than what to think. Education aims to develop a problem-solving ability. Learning is fixed by answering questions that risen throughout the world. The learner is the problem solver and thinks of ideas that make a sense through his or her individual experience in ways that involve either mental or physical situations.
Based on what I know about this philosophy, I would have to agree on the process that is explains. The reason why I say that is because I believe that the students should be aware of how the nature is changing and they react to it by using their skills and interests towards the classroom. It proves to the teachers that the procedures for the class would be kept and every student would do well once the results come along. It is clear that every student does have different interests, which could be complicating. However, that's the teacher's job to realize the strengths and weaknesses then proceed on making adjustments on the procedures. The students would have to go through a certain method to perform experiments and analyze the data. The teachers can guide them in developing the importance of education. One important desire for the students is knowledge. When it comes to this philosophy, the knowledge is the ability to understand the human resources. Knowledge continually be redefined and rediscovered to keep up with the changes.
