With 28 majors and 44 minors for students to choose from, Hood attracts a wide array of intelligent and driven students. From biology to economics, there is something for everyone at Hood. However, no matter what your major is, you will be immersed in all different fields of study, such as foreign language, science, math, and English. Because Hood is a liberal arts college, students are required to register for a variety of core classes to ensure that they will graduate with a well-rounded mindset, prepared to enter the workforce. Thankfully, students do not have to fret about going out into the real world alone; Hood professors go out of their way to help students feel ready, by helping them find and attain internships, assisting them with homework, or acting as advisers when it comes to major/career decisions. All in all, having close relationships with professors is essential for future success.

The best thing about academics at Hood is not the large variety of majors or the core curriculum, but the small class sizes. The average class size is approximately 17 (though it really depends on the class). The 100-level core classes usually have a little bit more (about 20 to 25 students), whereas the 300- and 400-upper-level courses usually have 12 or less. With small class sizes such as these, students are able to create very close relationships with their professors, participate fervently in discussions, and be treated as individuals instead of a face in the crowd. Professors will recognize the strengths and weaknesses of students, and will find the best ways to help them utilize their strengths and improve upon their weaknesses.
