There are some restaurants to choose from off campus.

People here are really accepting of those with different backgrounds.

There are tons of computers on campus to use if you need one.
College Freshman 2013-12-06T19:25:05Z
This is a dry campus meaning no alcohol or drugs are allowed.
College Sophomore 2013-12-05T04:57:28Z
The campus is pretty small so it really isn't an issue.

There are several options, including regular restaurants and fast food.
College Sophomore 2013-12-05T04:54:47Z
There is way too much staff and faculty parking and there are never open parking spots for students.
College Sophomore 2013-12-05T04:53:09Z
The quality of the furniture is not very good. The dorms I have lived in haven't had many amenities.
College Sophomore 2013-12-05T04:51:59Z
Basketball games are very fun. I have never participated in intramurals.

Greeks think they are special for being in Greeklife but no one else cares about them.

It is very windy here and it snows and rains more than normal.

Alcohol usage is typically semi-hidden because Hope is a dry campus but it is still well known among students.
College Freshman 2013-11-30T19:55:42Z
The food is good and there is a good variety.

No one will pressure you to use drugs or alcohol and you can still have a very interesting social life without them. However, if you do choose to partake in those things, the opportunities are there.

Downtown Holland has some of the best local restaurants around. There are plenty of options and waiting for a place isn't too bad. Some offer student discounts, but most places do not. But that is all right as the restaurants are mostly reasonably priced. Some of the more popular joints would be: 8th St. Grille, 84 East, Froggy's, Skiles, or The Curraugh.

Hope College is pretty up-to-date on all things technology, actually. Most labs have new Macs or some version that corresponds with what's needed. Our network reliability can be a little iffy sometimes, but overall is pretty decent. The bandwidth isn't too horrible either. I think most people need their own laptops though, for work, even though there are plenty of labs located on campus.

Well, we live in Michigan. That about says it all. Along with the fact that we're pretty much located off the lake about 6 miles, so we tend to get some pretty diverse weather. Some days it's sweltering, then rainy, snowing, or hailing. It can become especially dreary once we hit winter season. But all in all, we live in a very beautiful area, one that makes up for all the dreariness.

I cannot begin to describe how much I enjoy attending Hope College. As an out of state student I was pretty nervous about meeting new people and becoming involved. But I had no need, as the current student body was warm and welcoming during orientation week and I got to participate in some of the oldest collegiate traditions in America, namely The Pull and Nykerk. I was able to join some IM sports teams and get involved with the theatre group on campus.

There is not much wrong with the student life on campus. Hope College is located on a wide spread area near downtown Holland, Michigan, giving the students the opportunity to feel like they live in their own world while also still being part of the city. We have a wonderful Pine Grove where students can hang out during the fall and spring and many academic buildings available for the winter. Our traditions are very important to the college and the atmosphere, with the college spirit being high.

Our school is most notably known for the sciences. We tend to get multiple grants and funding every year for research and schooling. We are also accredited in the arts and dance, which is not common for most liberal arts schools. Although it is not require for people to attend chapel during the week, it is normally so packed that students have to stand. It just shows how much people value what Hope stands for.

Hope College has been working at making the environment more diverse, with the students, campus life, and opportunities. However there have been some challenges in that regard. As a church affiliated school, there have been some issues brought up that have addressed what Hope has been founded on. But some groups on campus are working on that.

For what campus housing can be like, Hope College has some very nice options. They area cleaned daily, and have strict rules for people to adhere by, whether it be noise levels, students rights, or living environments. I personally loved living on campus. We like to live by the open door policy which is a great way for people to converse and meet other residents. The cost is fairly reasonable and on the similar plain as other colleges/universities.

When it comes to off-campus housing, competitiveness is an understatement. People are constantly on the lookout for good local housing. But for what is available, the options are good. Most of the landlords are reasonable and understand that college students are looking for nice, cheap housing. We have a webpage that locals are able to post housing options.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
