you choose what you would like to do. if you choose to stay on campus, you can choose to live with a roomate or alone. you dont pay a monthly rent. the housing fee is just added to your school account, and when you pay your tuition u pay for housing. you can also choose to live off-campus if you live with your parents. this is only required for freshman though.
If you are staying on campus you can live by yourself, but it will be extremely expensive. Your best bet for living on campus and maintaining your freedom is to live in the apartments although you will most likely have roommates.
