Students at Houston Community College embrace diversity and support each other despite differences in racial, economic, and social backgrounds. There is a LGBT group on campus, alongside many academic, study, and religious clubs and organizations. The average student works part-time or full-time to help pay tuition and school-related fees. Students are willing to help each other in group projects and support each other in class. Many international students study within the Southwest region and have no trouble finding help from American students. With so much diversity, classmates often get along and learn new things from one another. Class discussions run smoothly and sometimes the teachers have to stop the students from continuing debates for too long. Students can sometimes be found speaking to each other in foreign languages, and cultural food and languages are shared are celebrated at certain times of the year by HCC clubs and organizations.
