College Prowler Take
Even though there is a very high level of school spirit and pride among students, Howard is not a very sports-oriented school. Most students, except for those who are on athletic scholarships, are not particularly preoccupied with school sports, at least not until the big Homecoming football game when students turn out in droves—no matter how cold it might be—and show support for their fellow Bison and cheer them on until they go hoarse. There is a wide variety of intramural sports available for students to participate in, and even though participation is fairly high, the numbers are not overwhelming when compared to the size of the student population. Considering students’ relative apathy towards sports, major ones like football, basketball, and soccer do have high levels of participation. Football games are by far the most popular and most publicized in the student media, and they are usually the most difficult games to get into. Students can get free tickets for every home game, either at the box office or at the Student Activities Center, while guests have to pay for theirs. Sometimes, there’s a problem with overcrowding in the stadium during some of the more publicized games. The Homecoming game is always a good example, where crowds have been known to well exceed the 10,000-seat capacity of Greene Stadium.

Varsity sports at Howard is not anything to scream about. School spirit is pretty low because we basically suck at every sport.

Our football team isn't the best. The swim team has done excellent, and the softball is pretty good. The track team is all good.

Intramurals are the only sports on campus people get a little excited about. Otherwise, people refuse to sit around and watch loss after loss—it's sickening. They need to not give out sports scholarships here.

Sports on campus aren't that big mainly because our teams aren't really that good. However, there is a team for just about any sport.

Varsity sports at Howard are...
Varsity sports at Howard are horrible. We, as a student body, are used to our teams being lackluster. Thus, if the team actually wins, we get surprised. Our training and workout facilities are lacking. Intramural sports aren't that big either, but anyone is able to play them.

Getting Tickets
Spectators can purchase tickets online, usually through Ticketmaster.com or at the Cramton Auditorium box office, but students generally only have to present their Howard University identification cards at the sporting event. Football games, however, follow a different procedure. Often times, two days prior to the football game, students can go in the basement of Cramton Auditorium, present their student identification card, and pick up a free game ticket.

Best Place to Take a Walk
The walk alongside the reservoir provides for a calm walking route. The route on U Street to Adams Morgan is also a nice walk; there is a lot to see along this path.
