Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are always policemen around campus, but their presence is by no means overwhelming. Unless they’ve been invited to give speeches or administer specific warnings to students, there isn’t much interaction between the campus police and the students. When students do commit minor violations like illegal parking, officers are usually somewhat understanding, all depending on the nature of the violation. Since most parties are off campus, in clubs, or someone’s house, the school’s social scene is somewhat detached from the rest of the campus. Sometimes you have to look for the parties, but they are there, and there’s little chance of the city police or campus police coming to break it up, unless of course something goes wrong and someone at the party actually calls them for help.

On the occasions that students have been caught violating the University’s code of conduct—which includes a zero-tolerance policy for weapons, drugs, and alcohol on the campus—they are either suspended or expelled, as dictated by the policy. These instances, however, are few and far between, because every Howard student realizes that they operate within a circle of trust. And once you find yourself outside of the circle’s circumference, there’s no going back.

No Visitation

There is no curfew at Howard University. However, there is no visitation for about the first 2 months. One you do receive visitation its from 12 pm - 12 am during the week and 2 am during the weekend. There is no overnight visitation unless you submit a form 2 weeks in advance. If you get a good RA then your dorm life will be fine.

Police Force Is Great

The police force at Howard University is really strict. They make sure that there are no problems on campus and they are always around if someone has a problem. I feel safe on campus because the police are very helpful and they check around the campus to make sure that there are no problems with individuals.

Strictness

The campus isn't too strict. You can smell weed around campus and campus police aren't really there to enforce when needed. Howard is strict when it comes to academics like any other college though.
