College Prowler Take
Drugs are virtually nonexistent at Howard, but realistically speaking, there are definitely a few individuals who take it upon themselves to use and sell drugs. Most students don’t use drugs, however, and a new student would have to work kind of hard to find a regular hookup. Students don’t really talk about the presence of drugs on campus or lack thereof, so you would be hard-pressed to find someone that would initiate a drug-related conversation with you, and since there is no social pressure at Howard to do anything to fit in other than just to be yourself, you’re not going to find any drugs unless you’re looking for them, and even that’s going to be a challenge. The dorms are basically the same way, RAs are consistently prowling the hallways in search of general dorm violations, and even when they’re not, there will always be someone on your floor who would only be too happy to report you to the authorities. Given the neighborhood’s past history of drug dealers and users, the city police are always patrolling the local areas, and they are real jerks, too. So, even though there’s always a chance of running into a dealer when the police are not around, it’s highly unlikely. And, all in all, such events rarely occur by accident.

I think everybody here is all too aware of the consequences of taking drugs, particularly in the black community. So, I think most students are smart and focused enough to steer clear of any drugs or other mind-altering substances. |

There’s no drug scene. In my opinion, the drug counseling services at Howard are just gathering dust. |

Sometimes, really early in the morning, you can get a whiff of weed in the breeze and you just know that some stressed out student has been indulging in an early morning wake and bake, but it is very rare to actually see someone doing drugs at any given time. |
