Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Washington, DC is a fast-paced city that literally has a scene for everyone, from hipsters to indies. Howard University is located in the ritzy Shaw district, minutes away from downtown, and is flanked by seven other universities. Some must-see spots in the city include the various museums and historical monuments, particularly the Museum of American History, which features numerous visually stimulating and interactive exhibits that appeal to avid and occasional museum-goers alike. For the more artsy crowd, there are places like the Corcoran, the Shakespeare Theatre, and the Kennedy Center, which all showcase plays and concerts. Other great spots include the Adams Morgan and U Street neighborhoods—home to a myriad of ethnic restaurants, bars, and clubs. Georgetown is also close and serves as a popular nightspot for many DC-area students. With so many universities in the city, many establishments provide significant student discounts and weekly specials.

For such a busy city, DC is relatively safe. However, there are of course some parts of the city that should be avoided at all costs. Overall, DC is a city that gleams with life and personality. You can always find something to do in DC—a night will never be boring.

In the Nation's Capitol

Whether you like to visit cool museums and monuments, or you like to party. There is always something to do around and off Howard's campus. With all of the gentrification going on, the direct surrounding area is a lot safer than it was in the past. There are so many night clubs and cool lounges...every college students dream.

Atmosphere at HU

HU is a great school surrounded by so much history and politics and I would encourage all students to travel outside of the comfort zone of HU and travel to other campuses and visit all the sites and opportunities that DC has to offer.

The City of D.C.

In Washington D.C. there is always something going on. The metro train system makes it that much easier to navigate through the city. Also, being a college student, money is a major factor and this city offers a lot of activities to do for people of all ages for free!
