The Social Scene

Because Howard University is located in our nation's capitol, there is no limit to the type of nightlife that can be found near campus. U Street, located less than five minutes from of the dorms, is noted for its bars and clubs. Other venues, such as The Ultrabar, Love Nightclub, and Fur, partner with Howard students, hosting parties. Shuttles to and from the club to are often provided from the club. Howard parties thrown at these clubs typically only require a student ID, thus allowing underage students to party as well. Other universities also promote parties on Howard's campus and are metro-accessible.

Fashion Forward

Howard University was recently ranked the second best dressed school in the country (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/27/the-best-dressed-colleges_n_885303.html#s297233&title=Howard_University). The fashion that you will find on campus isn't exclusive to the females. Girls and guys alike dress to impress across the campus. The university's fashion sense represents the creativity possessed by many of its students. That creativity spills over in other ways as well. As evidenced by alumni like Zora Neale Hurston, Taraji P. Henson, and Debbie Allen, the students of Howard not look the part, they ARE the part, graduating to become noted in their fields.

Greek Presence

There are Greeks around and you definitely notice their presence, but they don't overwhelm the atmosphere. The organizations blend nicely into the university and their tradition is admirable.

Not the School for Me

Howard University is not the school for me. I have not enjoyed my stay here which sucks because I'm on scholarship. I plan on transferring to Georgia State University.

In the Nation's Capitol

Whether you like to visit cool museums and monuments, or you like to party. There is always something to do around and off Howard's campus. With all of the gentrification going on, the direct surrounding area is a lot safer than it was in the past. There are so many night clubs and cool lounges...every college students dream.

Extreme Temperatures

In DC, it gets really hot in the summertime and really cold in the wintertime. I don't mind the heat but the cold and snow can be unbearable!

Diverse for an HBCU

Most people think there's no diversity an HBCU, but that's not the case at Howard. Almost everyone is black, but every state, religion, and ethnicity is represented. There is also a sizable LGBT presence. There is a group for everyone at Howard.

Stay Cautious

Howard University is located in a rather precarious spot in DC, and it is not always safe. Never walk alone late at night, and always stay vigilant, especially if you're a girl. As long as you make sensible decisions, you shouldn't have any trouble.

I'm a Radiation therapy at Howard University. This is a good program and with good administration. There is lots of work and get clinical experience.

Howard University: Health $ Safety

The location of Howard is in Washington DC, which can be a unsafe place. Coming from the south, I never understood until I moved here why people didn't talk and smile as much up north it's simply due to your safety. You never know what kind of a person someone is so you can't be extra friendly to everyone. I generally feel the most safe when I'm walking with a group of people, although I choose to travel alone most the time. Health is great because as students we get free visits to our medical center and there's an Howard University hospital just a few blocks up.

Girls Look Good

They all pretty much dress to impress everyday and when they want to look even better they do. There are so many you cant help but have attractive ones.

City Life

In the heart of Washington DC, there are many great things to do on an everyday basis. The many monuments, museums, clubs, historic landmarks and number of events will definitely keep you entertained.

Washington D.C. Is AMAZING

I attend Howard University, located in the Nation's Capital. Washington, D.C. is by far the best area in the country to matriculate. The National Mall is walking distance from my dorm. I can see the Capitol Building while I eat lunch. I can visit the Library of Congress if I want to do some research. There are so many opportunities in D.C. that you would not have in other locations. From the wide variety of food choices, to the thousands of corporations and businesses in such close proximity, D.C. has so much to offer college students. You can go kayaking on the Potomac on Friday and (for those over 21) bar crawl down U Street on Saturday. There will never be weekend that you can say "I wish there was something to do." Washington D.C. is amazing and I am so thankful I live here (for now)!

Howard Students

Many of the students at Howard are similar, whether it be their race, where they're from, major, etc. Our similarities make it easy for us to get along. MAny of the clicks/groups formed at Howard are very close, and become more like fmaily.

Biology Major

Being a biology major is very difficult if you're a lazy person, it's a lot of hard work keeping grades up.

Socialy Awesome

Howard is a very social place and if you enjoy being around people its the place to be. Greek life is very prevalent, and theres always something to do on and off campus. If you're in the School of Business you'll be in the 21st Century Advantage program and gives some experience working with fortune 500 companies and seriously helps you get internships with them. I got an internship with Morgan Stanley after my freshman year!

The West Tower

I stayed in the towers which is mainly juniors and seniors. The best part is no room mates! Instead you get a suit mate so all you share is a bathroom and kitchen. most rooms in the towers are a good size and come with furniture.

What Its Like at Howard

I entered howard at the middle of the year and I must admit that was not easy. In fact it was very stressful especially when it came to registration. I did not officially get class till a week later. However once that was done I fell in love with the school. The teachers are great and very helpful and the campus is nice.

Burn the Tree

Howard's drug scene is nothing extreme, just smoking really. Drinking has become less relevant when it comes to smoking. However, both are still popular activities.

HBU and Gladly So

Howard is an HBU and yet still has loads of diversity and acceptance in regards to its students and idealogy within its community. Gladly so, the tradition is profound and students are proud, regardless of race, to bear the HU on their chest and in their thoughts.

Beauty Everywhere

Howard has an exceptionally beautiful campus and buildings. The traditional architecture and the green landscaping provide for the utmost scenary and serenity when coming to and from classes, studying and enjoying the simple surroundings.

Nice Weather

When the sun comes out it is the best time to be on campus. The yard is a very fun and crowded place to be. Music is played and it reduces stress

Getting to Know HU

I came to Howard University because my relatives attended Howard. I have not been disappointed and I like the University it's been challenging navagating the campus but look forward to it becoming easier. The professors are easy to talk to and the course work in managable.

Greek Life Is ...

Greek lie is extremely important here at Howard. started 5 of the 9 Divine 9 Fraternities and Sororities, and having a host of other professional and community service based fraternities.
