How to Get to the Airport

  • First, you want to take George Washington Memorial Parkway north and go over the VA-123 Chain Bridge toward McLean I-495 Maryland. Then, you'll merge onto VA-267 West toward I-495 North (Dulles Airport exit, portions toll). Lastly, take Saarinen Circle toward arrivals/departures.

College Prowler Take

On campus, there are six shuttle bus routes: there’s one going between the main campus and the east campus (School of Divinity), one that travels between the main campus and the west campus (Law School), one that roams over by the main campus and the Meridian dorm, one going between the main campus and the Slowe and Carver dorms, and one going between the main campus, the hospital, and the Metro station. The last one basically circulates throughout campus, picking up and dropping off students wherever they want to go.

When you want to step off campus and venture out into the city, your best bet is to take public transportation. The Metro runs from 5:30 a.m. to 12 a.m. on weekdays and from 6:30 a.m. to around 3 a.m. on weekends. The Metro can take you to all the city’s museums and cultural spots, shops, restaurants, malls, and nighttime hotspots. Other possible transportation options include general car rental services, particularly the Zipcar system, a car rental company that caters to students with cars and is available at select Metro stations, Amtrak (for when you want to go out of town), the Marc train system, and the Virginia Railway Express, all of which not only serve locations outside of DC but also connect at DC’s Union Station.

Public transportation is very convenient. You can go anywhere you need to in DC, and even to some parts of Maryland and Virginia if you need to go there. The best part is that you can take the Metro to the airport, which means not having to hustle for a ride to the airport if you don’t have a car.

Going around the city is very convenient. It’s a very busy city, so there are a lot of buses, and there’s the Metro train system and lots of different shuttles downtown that take you to specific places.

It’s very convenient, but it can get expensive if you’re going somewhere every day. If you want to, you can even walk anywhere you want to go in DC, as long as you are healthy and in shape and take lots of water. There are some places downtown that you can actually get to faster by walking or taking the Metro.

Taking public transportation in DC...

Taking public transportation in DC is certainly not frowned upon by others like it is in some other cities. On the Metro, for example, you’ll be surrounded by prestigious businessmen and lice-ridden panhandlers.

There are a lot of buses that run practically every five minutes in the area of the campus going downtown and to Maryland, and there are two Metro stations really close to the campus so you don’t have to do a lot of walking to go away from the campus.
