It never gets to the point of snowing, but it does get down to the high-20's. The temperature for most of the year hangs around 60 degrees.

Many computers can be found all through the library for public use. Bringing a personal computer is useful, but not required in any class.

I don't deal with the "Greek" aspects of the social scene, or any fraternities whatsoever. I wouldn't know about how major or difficult to get in it is.

Teachers are fairly knowledgeable, students are friendly and helpful with assignments, and the work loads aren't unreasonably large.

I don't go to many places near the campus, but the places I have been have generally been clean, fast, and worth the price.

Very few people even notice color, apparent wealth, or sexual orientation. Everybody is highly accepting, so far as I have noticed.

Health & Safety:
Police can be seen around campus, but they don't bother people unless they're obviously doing some that isn't okay.

Grants were fairly easy to apply for, and were very useful in paying for tuition.
College Freshman 2013-12-05T21:05:38Z
I have not noticed any use of "substances" excepting cigarettes.

Guys & Girls:
People often describe how late they had to stay up to work on their assignments/projects. They put a great deal of effort into their studies.

Living on campus is an experience. The saving grace is our open mic night, when there is really a sense of community and creativity. There's lots of music, lots of hacky sack, lots of laughter, a good amount of noise if you live in certain areas. The cost is somewhat ridiculous, but I find college to be overpriced anyways.

The houses up here are dirt cheap as compared to the Bay Area. I only hope they still have available options when it comes time to actually move in. Furthermore, there's a bulletin board with postings of roommate/housing offers in our Housing Center. Houses range from very close to several miles away.

I'm currently an Environmental Resource Engineering major. Our science building is amazing; we have this giant greenhouse which is awesome for botany classes, and a whole lot of labs. Furthermore, there are lots of opportunities for internships as well as travel abroad programs for science majors.

I love the library for studying; it's vast and peaceful. The professors are very welcoming and willing to work with students. Personally, I've had a very manageable workload, comparable to high school. Registration is easy, and usually classes are open if you get an earlier registration date. They also offer supplemental instruction classes for some of the harder classes.

Personally I don't drink, but those who do find it easy to do almost any day of the week, it's quite entertaining. On Thursday nights there's an open mic night down the street, and most weekend there's a show somewhere. One great thing about Humboldt is the music; pretty regularly the school will host a band, be it a jazz trio or post-hardcore.

Arcata is a beautiful place. I live in a redwood forest. People this far north actually talk to each other, and are friendly just to be friendly. My only warning is that there's a good amount of transients, so if you're frightened of dirty hippies, go somewhere else.

Coming to the Pacific Northwest, I expected a whole lot more rain and fog, but it's been dry and sunny so far. Sigh, climate change.

Guys & Girls:
This question concerns me greatly. Is there some database somewhere, rating how slutty and/or attractive the girls at colleges are? What good does that do the girls? I get that it might be alright to gauge the community and the "feel" of a school, but damn, show some respect to diversity, and to differing opinions of beauty. Some people are loud, some are quieter. Some people smoke cigarettes, some sit on councils. On average, I'd say everyone is everywhere on the range of attractiveness, both fun and geeky, sometime stuck-up mostly humble, etc. etc.

Personally, I have never attended a football game; I've associated pigskin with patriarchy way too much to be comfortable sitting in a bleacher, cheering on men hurting other men. But our facilities are pretty great nonetheless, and the gym is accessible to anyone, students, clubs, and athletes alike.

As a vegan going to a school rated #2 vegan-friendly in the US, I excepted a whole lot more. As a student in a town which has banned franchises, I expected a whole lot less foods bought from conglomerates; frankly, I find it ridiculous and hypocritical that my liberal, progressive school only offers Kellogg's brand cereal for breakfast, and Coca-Cola owned Odwalla's on every counter.
College Freshman 2013-11-28T21:45:09Z
It's probably great; as a college student fraught with financial woes, I've never actually eaten out. But the community offers lots of locally-grown food, and even a vegetarian restaurant right off campus. It's quite delicious, so I've heard.
College Freshman 2013-11-28T21:41:30Z
While their are many computer labs on campus, with printing below 50 cents per page, I still find our entire educational system to be entirely classist in regards to technology. If I didn't have a laptop, I couldn't succeed in college, end of story.

There seems to be Greek options for those interested, but it isn't played up to be ultra cool and the best thing out there. It's available but at a respectable distance.
College Senior 2013-11-25T19:26:56Z
There could be more variety, but for a small town, that can be hard to come by.
College Senior 2013-11-25T19:26:05Z
The only downside is the availability of computers in labs at certain times of the day. You can usually find an open lab, but not every lab has all the programs you need.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
