College Prowler Take
Hunter is a feature on Lexington Avenue. Its skywalks can be seen from several blocks away crossing over the busy street. These skywalks make it easy to get around the campus by connecting the separate buildings, and are especially useful in the winter and on rainy days. For most students, they are also a place to hang out between classes. Since an overwhelming majority of students do not have a dorm room to retire to during breaks, areas to relax or do work become very important, and there are always people milling about outside on the steps smoking or playing hackey sack near the Tau, a large black trapezoidal sculpture reminiscent of a T built in front of Hunter’s West Building several decades ago. Athletic buffs may find solace in the Sports Complex, the deepest building in Manhattan. It opened in 1985 and consists of multiple gymnasiums, racquetball courts, a weight room, and training room (keep in mind that you need to have a Physical Activity Card valid for four semesters in order to use the sports facilities). If not in the mood for a pickup game, you might be able to find an unlocked practice room in the music department to perfect your Fur Elise. Except for the skywalks, there is nothing particularly interesting or attractive about Hunter’s campus. Its library is not the prettiest belle at the ball, either, though students are able to use other CUNY libraries. Baruch’s is especially nice and is only a subway ride away if you want a pleasant studying atmosphere. Because the campus was founded in 1870 yet includes recent modifications and improvements, the campus has an interesting look to it, mixing the old with the new. This can be nice if you go for that juxtaposition, but bad if you have to travel from one room with air conditioning to one without.

The athletic facilities are okay....
The athletic facilities are okay. The student centers are always busy and congested. Free printer lines are humongous—they should have more free printing stations around campus. The library is alright, but it really feels old.

Library has a wide selection
A
I love the Hunter library, though it isnt very pretty, it has a wide selection. If your just looking for a place to study, CUNY students have access to all CUNY libraries, so hit up the Baruch library- it's right near the hunter dorms.

The facilities are decent, not always state-of-the-art, but they are improving. |

Honestly, I haven’t visited many...
Honestly, I haven’t visited many of the Hunter facilities. I know that the counseling office is always packed and overcrowded. But, if I’ve really needed help, I was guided to a place that could help me solve my problem. Somehow, things always work out, if not at the first place you look. |

I’ve never used the athletics...
I’ve never used the athletics department. I’m a bit of a sloth in that area. The computers are fast and efficient, and if you go to the second floor in Thomas Hunter, you can set up your own personal account, and there are plenty of places for you to get free printing. Sometimes, a student will decide to print out an entire story for an English class that she or he will probably never read, and that is a little more than annoying. |

Favorite Things To Do
Got some time to spare? With Central Park only a few blocks away, and stores lining Lexington Avenue, you don't have to go far for a distraction. Or, you can stick around on campus and take in a lecture, play a pick-up game of basketball, or catch up on some sleep on the couches in the West Building.
It's easy to find a place to hang out between classes on campus, but if you're looking for something a little more stimulating, there are readings by the likes of Toni Morrison and Paul Auster throughout the semester, or movie screenings, music recitals, and dance performances in the Ida K. Lang recital hall and theater. Or, you can take a walk to Central Park and work on your tan.
Coffeehouse on Campus
- Starbucks stand in West Building, first floor
Bowling on Campus
- There is bowling at Brookdale Campus, but it’s the old-school kind where the pins are reset by hand.
