With its skywalks looming across Lexington Avenue and its ability to draw crowds of young students to the front of the West Building, Hunter College’s vertical campus is a prominent feature of Lexington Avenue. The College is decorated with abstract art that is not necessarily aesthetically pleasing, but in general, the campus is very well maintained. The skywalks make it easy for students to go between buildings without having to go out into the street, which comes in handy when it’s raining or the streets are particularly busy. Many students like to sit on the bridges, and they serve as a good spot to hang out and gaze up Lexington Avenue right to the Chrysler Building. Hunter’s West Building is one of the deepest in Manhattan; in addition to having 15 floors, it has multiple gymnasiums, racquetball courts, a weight room, and training room to keep students entertained when not in class.
Hunter is constantly undergoing renovations, including the modernization of Thomas Hunter Hall. However, the College boasts of state-of-the-art classrooms and a fully stocked library with nine large floors for students to study in and a large collection of books and archives ranging in subjects from East Asian literature to cognitive psychology to issues of Rolling Stone magazine. Some floors offer group-study tables where students can talk as loud as they like; all floors have computers, and most floors have printers, copiers, and scanners for students to use. In general, Hunter’s facilities are kept up-to-date, and students can often find a place to burn excess energy.

Beware Weekend/Evening Students
Most facilities are not available to evening and weekend students. Normal business hours are 9am to 4pm. If you have a day job, you may never experience the true college life.

Amazing stacks, good-enough reference system, awful stairs.

The library is quite but can be depressing at times. The athletic center is fully equipped and up to date. There are plenty of on campus activities and opportunities to get involved. Aesthetically, the school could use a lift but it's quite comfortable.

Hunter is slowly going green in little ways, such as conserving energy by turning off escalators when they are least likely to be used. Almost everywhere at Hunter, garbage bins are separated into portions for easy recycling (can, plastic, etc.). The cafeteria also partners with City Harvest to donate unused food at the end of each day to the needy around NYC.
The College also hosts readings from famous authors, concerts, stimulating lectures, and plays for students to attend in their spare time.
While Central Park is only a few blocks away, most students like to spend their leisure time around the campus itself, lounging on the skywalks or just talking with friends in the various lounge areas in the West Building. Students can also window-shop on Lexington or Third avenues, or go to the park when the weather permits.

College Prowler guides are in the hands of students throughout the entire process. Because you can't make student-written guides without the students, we have students at each campus who write, edit, and survey their peers for every guide that we publish.
