- 6 - Subway line that stops directly at Hunter
- Blackboard - Online service that some classes utilize to update students on tests and homework and to post homework and take-home exams
- Block - Freshman grouping of classes based on an academic theme
- CPE - CUNY Proficiency Examination, a three-hour test all students are required to take the first semester after they’ve earned 45 credits
- CUNY+ - Library catalogue service
- Dean’s Hours - 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Wednesday when there are no classes, this is the time when most clubs meet.
- ePermit - Enables students to take courses at other CUNY schools
- eSIMS - Online site where you register and can view your schedule, bill, and transcript
- GER - General Education Requirement
- Laptop kids - Students in the Honors College who receive free MACs as part of their scholarship
- NSE - National Student Exchange
- OASIS - Office of Administrative and Information Services, where you can get your ID, semester bill, and ask registration questions
- ORSEM - Seminar, required for all freshmen
- Overtally - Registering for a full class; many people have to resort to this to get their requirements for majors and general education completed in time to graduate.

Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
- It’s not a big party school.
- Registering for the classes you want can be very difficult.
- The Honors College program is where you get free tuition and laptop, but you can only apply as a freshman.
- There is a two-year language requirement.
Tips to Succeed
- Attend class and be on time—a lot of teachers keep track and may penalize.
- Buy textbooks before the semester begins to avoid the long lines.
- Keep track of every piece of paper you get concerning requirements.
- Participate, especially if it counts toward your grade.
- Research professors before taking their classes.
- See professors outside of the classroom.
