There isn't much peer pressure but it is still there. I don't believe that any problems arise from anyone taking drugs and alcohol on this campus. I believe that most people are responsible when they do it, so it doesn't matter much.

Health & Safety:
There are patrol cars and officers visible from almost everywhere on campus and there are help buttons located throughout campus that will get police there in less than one minute.

My grades are not specific. It goes down and ups because of my family problems.

IIT has a rolling admissions process. Tips for the admissions essay from my perspective: Be creative. You want to stand out from the rest of the applicants, and the only way you're going to be able to do that is by being yourself.

Being an electrical engineering major is definitely no easy task. But the resources that IIT provide help to make it that much more enjoyable and ultimately rewarding. I do have a few concerns finding a job in my field, being an international student, but IIT does provide a great career management service.

There are a lot of off-campus housing choices available. Students often live in apartments with 2-3 others at reasonable rates. I feel like availability can be a little shaky at times. Pros include the fact that most housing is about a 5 minute walk from the train station, and about a 1 minute walk from the bus stop.

I love the Electrical Engineering program that I am in. The classes are challenging but encourage team work and creative ways of thinking. The competitions help motivate us to spend time on our projects. The professors and TAs are very helpful and even interact with students on a Blackboard forum pretty much 24/7. From what I've seen, there are a lot of job opportunities available, but not so many internship opportunities as of now.

Freshman dorms are pretty great, the rooms are carpeted and fully air conditioned. My only complaint is that they are a little too small to fit everything in, especially with the big study tables and beds provided. Also, a mini fridge would be nice. But overall, I'm not complaining because the social atmosphere is quite relaxed and open. Cost shouldn't be an issue for most since the majority of people I've met receive housing scholarships.

The drug scene must not be very big since I've never heard of anyone doing illegal substances on campus.

A lot to the school is what you make of it. Yes, the school is in Chicago, but most certainly not a safe area, similar to University of Chicago. The southside of the city is not known for its nightlife, hence IIT students running to public trans to head north for fun activities. The school is two blocks away from the home of the Chicago White Sox, which you would think would create more hangouts in the area. This is not the case. This is actually a decades-old problem regarding the neighborhood.

For IIT students, off-campus dining by the school is very limited given being in dividing lines of two not-well off neighborhoods. You have to walk at least 25min into Bridgeport to get to most restaurants, mainly pizza, hotdogs, diner food, and various lower-budget chains. I can't speak for going the opposite direction into Bronzeville. Someone tried to mug me going to the McDonald's two blocks away from campus, so I stopped trying in that area.

Illinois Institute of Technology's library is good. These has QR scan to help student to find their book, and these provide many sleeping bean for someone who is study until night. There has some vending machines, but these are not good. On the other hand, our new student center is pretty good which provides computer, ping pong and video game for student.

The new freshmen dorm SSV at IIT is great, but the price is not cheap. If you want to save your money, you might choice McCormick Student Village. By the way, sharing an apartment is more valuable than live on campus.

The place around campus are not very good. I think people are going to get tired of eating at dining hall too. However, the campus is not far from Chicago downtown, if you have time that will be a good option.

I'm in the Illinois Institute of Technology, and study in Architecture program. My school was established by Mies van der Rohe who is one of the most important modernism architect in the world. Additionally, he said " less is more", and focus on clearly structure. That is why the architecture program combine structure and design also. Specially, every architecture student can have a double major in Structural Engineering, or have a miner in psychology and urban affairs. These things help everyone to improve their ability, and have an opportunity to find their way in architectual area.

I came to IIT because it has an architecture program, it was established by Mies van der Rohe. The campus is great, and there has many amazing project designed by Mies van der Rohe. Additionally, the architecture studio is located in Crown hall which is one of the famousest building in the world. By the way, McCormick Tribune Campus Center is designed by Koolhaas. How wonderful place to learn Architecture!

IIT is going to provide Ipad mini for new student, and it is very good for me. First of all, I can buy textbook online, and get almost fifty percent off for digital one. Secondly, it can be a dictionary in class for someone whose native language is not English. Finally, it is easy to show you work to your friend or teacher. For these reason, I maintain it will be help in this year!

transportation is great, you get the upass and are allowed to us CTA for free. The green line is across the street from main buildings and dorms. Buses run all the time. student parking is expensive but your car would be safe and secure.
College Sophomore 2013-08-12T23:37:31Z
The architecture program is very unique in its own way because the studio itself was designed by mies van der rohe, also the architecture courses are taught by professors that know exactly what they are doing.

weather is unpredictable either way in chicago so classes resume regardless. I do get my moneys worth from IIT

Of all the schools I applied to, Illinois Tech was the school that rewarded students the most financially for academic achievement.

IIT is five minutes away from the downtown area of one of the greatest cities in America; Chicago. Because of this and the fact that every student receives a U-Pass (a pass for unlimited access to the CTA public transportation throughout the semester) the campus of IIT stretches as far into the city as you would like.
College Freshman 2013-07-29T15:19:43Z
It's Chicago weather so it's sort of bipolar. Some days it's hot and other days, it's cold. It gets really cold in the winter and it gets really hot in the summer. It's really important to always have a winter jacket handy.
College Freshman 2013-07-29T15:15:28Z
IIT is located in a world class city: Chicago. You can find anything you need very easily because transportation is convenient, as well. There's always something to do, students are never bored over the weekend because it only takes two minutes, on the train, to reach downtown Chicago.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
