College Prowler Take
ISU has many sports fans, but their support for ISU athletics tends to vary season by season. If a sports team is having an outstanding season, then the whole school will come out to support them. Sadly, if the team is doing poorly, then they will soon become the butt of all jokes on campus. While school spirit is lacking at ISU, there is usually a fair amount of fans that attend the football and men’s basketball games. For less popular teams like women’s soccer and softball, the lack of fan support is sad, especially since these are the most successful teams on campus. ISU sport clubs are starting to make their mark on campus, and the success of the lacrosse team, one of the more popular club teams, has given others the confidence to create club teams at ISU. all ISU students are invited to join any of the IM sports available, and championship games are known to get a little rowdy.
Many athletes support each other at ISU, but it is difficult to get the student body to follow. With the lack of student support, it can be difficult for athletes to stay motivated and competitive. The popularity of IM sports continues to rise, and the only way for students to understand how much fun it is to sign up first thing when they get to school.

Men’s basketball here is huge! Everyone goes to the Bradley game. It is fun to see so many people excited over a game. |

The sports here are not a huge deal from what I have heard or seen. We do not have any all-star athletes or teams. If we had a team that was competitive in the NCAA, then I think there would be more school spirit. |

I haven’t participated in sports, but many of my friends are involved in football, and they enjoy it a lot. I hear a lot about IM sports, and it is a great way to be involved. So many people have fun playing IM sports. |

IM and varsity sports here are...
IM and varsity sports here are just average compared to other schools. While some of our varsity teams are good, the main ones such as football and basketball rarely have winning seasons. That is probably why they do not attract many fans. |

Gyms and Facilities
- Student recreation Building - The Student Recreation Building is a very popular place for students to work out. For a small semester fee, students are able to use cardio equipment and free weights. Drawbacks to the Student Rec Building are that the cardio center is small, and there is a 20-minute limit on all cardio machines. The gym is also located off campus, so if a student does not have a car, they are forced to walk or wait for the bus.

Getting Tickets
Tickets can be purchased the day of a game, and normally games do not sell out. In the past, football games would sell out when ISU was a contender for the Gateway Conference Championship. Sadly, they no longer are, and the games no longer sell out. Redbird fans can always count on buying a ticket on game day. The only time a fan would need to purchase a ticket in advance would be for the Bradley Bash, which is when ISU plays Bradley University in men’s basketball.
Most Popular Sports
Like any typical state university, football and men’s basketball receive the most attention. While they may not be the most successful teams, they still tend to bring in the most revenue and fans.
Most Overlooked Teams
The women’s teams in general do not receive a lot of attention. The softball and soccer teams are high-ranked competitors in the conference and have made it to the NCAA Tournament in the past, but still they do not receive the attention they deserve. The tennis and golf teams also win their conferences consistently, but they do not receive a load of spectators at their matches.
