Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Even though Illinois State University is a public university, there is still a lot of campus strictness when dealing with the dorms. ISU is a dry campus, so the alcohol policies are very strict. Every semester, students are required to read over the alcohol and drug policy for reference. Alcohol is not allowed in the dorms, except in Atkin-Colby and Hamilton-Whitten if the resident is over the age of 21. Underage drinking is especially strict at ISU. If RAs suspect drinking in the dorms, they can either give students a citation or call the campus police. If the RAs suspect drug use, they will always call the campus police. Drinking tickets come at a hefty price of $250 for the first offense and an alcohol awareness class. The Normal Police Department works with the ISU Police Department to patrol the campus and break up parties if needed.

Checking in to dorms is also another hassle. The Night Operations (Night Ops) is a group of students and other community members who work between the hours of 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. by checking students' IDs and room keys. If a student needs into a dorm building between these hours, they are required to show their ID and room key. The Night Ops will check their verification and let them in. Students are only allowed two guests, and they must show two proofs of identification (one must be a photo). Night Ops is very strict with this policy and will turn people away if they are unable to check or sign in.

Police Hunt for Violations

The law enforcement here at ISU can really screw you over if your ever wind up getting caught even doing something remotely wrong. The police usually try and hunt for students who may possibly violate any of the school policies. Personally I would say that the strictness is over emphasized by police here at ISU, and sometimes winds up hurting more students than actually helping.

It Could Be Better but It Could Be Worse

the cops are pretty strict but because fraternities are off campus they are not allowed to come into the house unless they have good reason which would be somebody passed out on the lawn which rarely happens.

Campus Strictness at Illinois State

The school has activities for people who do not drink to do on weekends. They are pretty strict on drinking, if you get caught you get a drinking ticket most likely.
