Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There is some prevalence of drugs on the Illinois State University campus, the main being alcohol. Most students partake in drinking on the weekends, and there are four main liquor stores on each end of campus that supply to students. Be wary if you are using a fake ID because police will monitor people walking in and out. Many students do not consider alcohol to be a drug because it is so readily available. In fact, there are a number of students who will drink almost every day of the week and see no problem with it because it does not negatively affect their schoolwork.

According to crime reports sent out to students after infractions, a large number of people are caught in possession of illicit substances such as marijuana. RAs will call the campus police if they suspect an obnoxious odor coming from a dorm room. Marijuana is a common drug around campus and can be found easily. Many students believe marijuana will not affect their academics, so they use it as a recreational pastime. Other drugs, such as cocaine or prescription drugs, are not as popular at ISU, but nevertheless can still be found. Overall, drug usage depends on who you hang out with. The University does not tolerate drugs on campus, but it offers help to students who need it through the Student Counseling Services.

Drugs Are Bad Mmkayy

Alcohol is obviously the drug of choice for college students. Other than that, most people are smoking pot and that is all I am aware of.

Campus Tend to Crack Down Hard on It.

My first week after transferring to ISU there was a drug/alcohol crack down and students were put on probation when caught with substances in the dorms. So the parties tend to take place in off-campus apartments.

Lots of Drugs

I don't do drugs or alcohol, and for me there are way too many raging parties featuring marijuana and LOTS of alcohol. Almost all students participate in these parties, so if you don't want to go, like me, you kind of have to deal with pretty boring weekends. However, if you like to party, this is the school for you.
