Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are enough forms of transportation in Bloomington-Normal that there is no need for a student to have a car on ISU's campus, other than for pure convenience. The Redbird Express Shuttle is perfect for on-campus traveling and runs Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters. This shuttle has two routes that provide transportation around campus: the first is from Tri-Towers to East Campus, and the second is from Atkin/Colby to East Campus.

Another good form of transportation is the Bloomington-Normal Public Transportation System (BNPTS), which stops at Watterson and will take students practically anywhere in town, with routes organized by colors and letters. The BNPTS can be confusing for new users, but the drivers are helpful and will answer any questions. The BNPTS is free with a student ID, but costs $1 for all other patrons. Most students enjoying walking or riding their bikes around campus when the weather permits. There are also taxi services, but these are more reserved for the weekend when traveling downtown.

Get Around Town

Public transportation is good in Normal. ISU has its own bus system to get around campus and the Bloomington-Normal Public Transit bus has stops all around the town and campus. It makes not having a car at school manageable. If its late a night we also have a service that will pick you up., and if you know you will be drinking a "party bus" is available to be the designated driver and bring people too and from the bars. Also, the amtrak train station is within walking distance of campus which makes for easy travel.

Transportation

There is transportation, but it really isn't necessary around campus unless you live in Tri-towers or off campus housing, but by that point, most people have a car. There are also other buses that take you into town, which are very helpful.
