Advice on Finding a Job/Internship The Career Center is located in the basement of Gulick Hall, a freshman dorm. The staff is well trained and highly professional. They can assist with résumé writing, job and internship searches, practice interviews, and a host of other services. Most students choose to intern in town so that they can continue to live on campus and take classes. Summer internships are popular also, but require additional preparation. Internships are available for just about any major, but students in certain fields, like religion or anthropology, have better luck looking within their department for internship opportunities. The Career Center has a lot of connections within the community, so getting the hookup in town is pretty easy. Out-of-town internships require a little more motivation and work on the part of the student. However, the resources for out-of-town inquiries are overwhelming. Many students have interned in Chicago accounting firms and environmental agencies in the region. Once students secure an internship they enjoy, they often return the next year, and many use a positive interning experience to jumpstart a career. Every year the Career Center distributes a publication that outlines the goals and services available to students. The Career Center hosts a number of seminars focused on preparing students for interviews and offers tips for succeeding in the workplace environment. Besides that, the resources are updated every year, so the most relevant jobs are available. The Career Center helps students arrange for credited internships by working with the student’s department.
