Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There is an incredible amount of places to eat off campus. Everything from pizza to Chinese to Thai to sushi to burgers and fries. A number of these places are within walking distance of IWU. Downtown Bloomington is home to a nice mix of affordable, locally-owned eateries and franchise restaurants. There are many restaurants on the other side of town that a lot of students never experience because they aren’t aware of them. There are also numerous ethnic grocery stores nearby. There are two Mexican stores, an Indian grocery, and an organic foods store. This makes dining at home an experience as well.

Unfortunately for Wesleyan students, most will never make it to some of the restaurants because they are just too out of the way. There are so many choices nearby that it really doesn’t matter. Most places in town know the location of IWU, so you rarely have to explain to the delivery driver which building of what campus you’re on. People say that Bloomington residents dine out more per capita than anywhere else in the Midwest. The combination of a wide variety of restaurants, affordable meals, and easy access makes the same hold true for IWU students.

If You Have a Car...

Within walking distance, there's not much. However, if you have a car (which many students do), Bloomington has the most restaurants per capita in the country. Which is great, because the on-campus food isn't always the best.

On-Campus Dining Is Easier

Illinois Wesleyan University is located in Bloomington IL, a nice enough town but surrounded by corn fields. There are a lot of dining opportunities in town but without a car you will never be at them. There is variety and there is nothing too too expensive but not much is convenient and there are no student discounts.
