Over 90 percent of students live off campus. This rate will probably remain fairly constant, as long as campus housing is so expensive in comparison to off-campus housing. Finding an apartment in Indianapolis is extremely easy, fast, and affordable. Just open up a Nuvo Magazine, Indianapolis Star, or any other local periodical and find a plethora of housing options—lofts, studios, roommates, houses, apartments, duplexes. Students can find housing options on every side of town, and each student has his or her own reasons to prefer a specific side of town, whether it is because that is where their parents live or because that is where they find the cheapest housing possible. Many independent students live downtown in apartments and lofts that are conveniently located minutes away from campus.
Some of the best places for a student to live are downtown. Riley Towers, Canal on the Square, Lockerbie Court, The Block, and many others are among these places. Riley Towers is one of the best spots because they have high-rise living with fabulous views and all utilities are included in the rent. The Towers’ studios start at around $600 a month. There are cheaper living options on the outskirts of downtown, where studios usually start out at $300 a month. Also, students from IUPUI live all over town, so there are rarely issues with the locals having to get used to student life in the fall.
