College Prowler Take
IUPUI’s computer facilities seem to be constantly changing, in location as well as in quality. There used to be a 24-hour computer lab in the business building, which is very conveniently located near several classrooms and safe parking lots. A few years ago, the 24-hour lab was moved to a location that seems much less convenient to most of the students, but the quality of the lab is much greater, and the students are adjusting to the new location pretty well. The lab assistants are typically very helpful, and they usually take their time to help find solutions to the students’ computer and technology problems. In addition to these one-on-one resources, there are also some very useful classes offered by UITS (University Information and Technology Service) and IT (Information Technology), which are free to IUPUI students. These classes run the gamut: e-mail, word processing, Oncourse (IUPUI’s online course management software), databases, spreadsheets, Web development, and more. IUPUI students can also call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to get help from UITS concerning any issues or questions they may have about computers and technology. Their number is (317) 274-HELP (4357). They will even walk you through the steps if you’re having system issues! This is a service that every student can take advantage of time and time again. Also, students at IUPUI have enjoyed a very accessible wireless network that is supplied to the students with their free subscription to IUPUI e-mail and technology services.

There is a computer lab in almost every academic building, but computer labs can sometimes be crowded. If you bring your own computer, rest assured that you should have Internet access, since there is wireless Internet available in most buildings. |

There is a 24-hour lab available, and there are many others located on campus, as well. The network seems fine to me, as it is always being updated. |

The computer network is pretty good on campus. Most of the labs are available for use during the school day, and there is a 24-hour lab for after-hours students. You’re better off bringing your own computer, to be on the safe side, unless you know where the empty labs are. |

The computer network is one of the best in the country. The Indiana University system is well-known for its network prowess, and the IUPUI campus houses one of the Internet II nodes. There are places on campus where you can download at speeds of up to 7 MB per second, and the library normally downloads around 960 KB. All of the connections are blazing fast. Most of the computers are newer, and you can check out laptops in University College. Also, most of the campus is wireless—for free. |

There is no need for me to bring a laptop. I have a computer at home, but when I am here, I use the campus computers. I’ve never had an issue getting a computer when I need one. There are labs everywhere. |
