College Prowler Take

The most popular drug on campus is probably the same one on most other campuses—caffeine. There just isn’t a huge illegal drug scene at IUPUI. Underage drinking is the one thing that might fit into this category, but most students that live on campus do not get very involved with drugs. There are surely some off-campus parties and gatherings where students can find drugs, but it would probably take a bit of effort on a student’s part to get some marijuana or any other narcotics.

IUPUI has recently taken on a fairly aggressive smoke-free campaign. Smoking cigarettes is not allowed within 30 feet of any building doorway. There are special ashtrays located in designated areas for students that choose to smoke. Although the new rules are not always abided, the message is very clear. There are also a number of smoking cessation programs for students that want to quit smoking.

There are several police officers...

There are several police officers on campus, so I am sure that people don’t get away with doing drugs too often. Possessing and dealing may be different. There are several places to hang out that aren’t in view of the police. I’m sure it happens—just like it would at most any public university.

IUPUI is supposed to be a drug-free, wet campus. Most students are not involved in illegal drugs while on campus, but there is a bar, and students over 21 may drink when outside of the classroom (unless you are taking a drink-tasting course).
