College Prowler Take
Over 90 percent of students live off campus. This rate will probably remain fairly constant, as long as campus housing is so expensive in comparison to off-campus housing. Finding an apartment in Indianapolis is extremely easy, fast, and affordable. Just open up a Nuvo Magazine, Indianapolis Star, or any other local periodical and find a plethora of housing options—lofts, studios, roommates, houses, apartments, duplexes. Students can find housing options on every side of town, and each student has his or her own reasons to prefer a specific side of town, whether it is because that is where their parents live or because that is where they find the cheapest housing possible. Many independent students live downtown in apartments and lofts that are conveniently located minutes away from campus.
Some of the best places for a student to live are downtown. Riley Towers, Canal on the Square, Lockerbie Court, The Block, and many others are among these places. Riley Towers is one of the best spots because they have high-rise living with fabulous views and all utilities are included in the rent. The Towers’ studios start at around $600 a month. There are cheaper living options on the outskirts of downtown, where studios usually start out at $300 a month. Also, students from IUPUI live all over town, so there are rarely issues with the locals having to get used to student life in the fall.

I found a cheap apartment less than 10 minutes from campus that was in a nice area and convenient. I chose whether or not I wanted a roommate, and I saved money on gas! |

I would suggest living within walking distance of campus, but not living on campus, if possible. |

There are lots of options, but many are pretty pricey if you are trying to get a spot right downtown. I live on the northeast side of town and just commute everyday. I think that is how most students do it. |

Stay away from the apartments...
Stay away from the apartments called ‘Campus Apartments.’ They are not part of the University and have a high crime rate. They are located north of the University across 11th Street, next to the old YMCA. |
