College Prowler Take

The signature limestone buildings on campus are constantly undergoing renovations that no one ever seems to witness. There is a covert team of custodians, gardeners, and maintenance personnel that keep everything beautiful. IU really does have everything. For the fitness junkie, there are state-of-the-art facilities; for the movie buff, there are foreign and rare movies screenings; for the food lover, there are gourmet meals served periodically in the elegant Tudor room in the IMU.

IU does a great job of finding ways to keep students entertained by and enamored with the college lifestyle. The campus is a close-knit community with so much to offer. If you are unable or unwilling to go off-campus, you don’t have to. You can mail bills at the on-campus post office, eat a gourmet lunch, watch movies and shows, get a fade or a haircut, play a game of pickup basketball, or work out without ever stepping foot off IU property. Although it might be somewhat monotonous to live for four years within a few square miles, the nearby facilities are what make IU a convenient, fun, and pleasant place to be.

We are working on it. The library...

We are working on it. The library is getting remodeled, so it's starting to look real nice. It is really available to students too. We are getting a whole new sports complex in a year or so. The campus is really getting built up, so in a few years most of the facilities here will be really nice.

The major gym on campus is huge...

The major gym on campus is huge and equipped for any activity you can think of. It has tons of different courts, exercise rooms, locker rooms and is always clean and comfortable. The Union is beautiful and is a very relaxing and warm place to be. There are multiple floors, as it is also part of the IU hotel, so it has cafeterias, a Starbucks with a huge study lounge, and many shops. The Wells Library is home to nearly all students on campus, and it is beautiful and completely up-to-date as far as technology is concerned. There is an underground cafeteria and offers a fully stocked Kinkos-type area, as well as designated quiet floors.

I don't know much about the gyms...

I don't know much about the gyms or other athletic facilities since I'm not much of an athlete myself, but I love the main library on campus as well as the several well-placed "mini" libraries around campus which are perfect for stopping in to print off homework or to check my e-mail. Most of the older facilities are either being remodeled or are in the processes of getting ready to be remodeled.

Favorite Things To Do

Between classes, you can shoot a game of pool in the Union, listen to live music, or look at a photography exhibit in the gallery. There’s always bowling if you’re looking for something a little more physical, and afterward, you can quench the thirst you worked up at one of the restaurants out the back door. Book a spring break trip at the travel agency, or an IU Outdoor Adventure. Nice weather? Take a stroll through the arboretum, or visit the solarium to do some sun spot watching. If you’re in the mood for something more academic, take a tour of the Lilly Library’s rare book collection

There’s usually a movie or two showing around campus, a popular option everywhere, but that’s just the beginning. Free concerts at the Musical Arts Center are appealing, as are the operas and ballets performed there. The IU Auditorium consistently brings in big-name acts along with shows such as Stomp, Rent, and Miss Saigon. The most popular place on campus for at least a few months out of the year is undeniably the Assembly Hall, where the men’s basketball team takes on its opponents.
