Advice

  • The career counselors and other staff are there for a reason, as are the countless web pages devoted to the topic. Use them! Use them for all they are worth, and you’ll be fine. Start early, too; it’s never too soon to get experience. Keep your GPA up and your contacts open, and try to be ambitious when seeking a job or an internship. Don’t procrastinate on this one; you’ll regret it. There are tons of resources to help you land that perfect internship or get a serious job offer when you graduate. First on the list is the Career Development Center (CDC), where you’ll find a lot more subsidiary units to aid your specific case. Career Counseling Services can help you choose a major or find a career, and there’s even a class (Q294: Basic Career Development) that helps you figure things out and get credit at the same time. Once you’re in an individual school, rather than the University Division that most freshmen start out in, there are offices filled to the brim with personnel whose sole purpose in life is to make sure you’re on track. From general to narrowly-tailored, there’s just about every type of assistance you could ask for at IU.
