College Prowler Take
Computing at ISU is amazing. Whether you have a computer for work, play, or both, ISU has the Internet connection you will need to make your computing dreams come true. Students seem to be extremely satisfied with the number of labs on campus, the quality of the computers available, and the accommodations made for those who wish to bring their own computers. The network is also easy to browse, thanks to Strangesearch. “Convenience” seems to be the word on computers. Between 65 and 75 percent of students bring their own computers, and most would find them difficult to live without. It is not necessary to bring your own, however. Sometimes the computer usage in dorm rooms can become ridiculous, with roommates chatting online while sitting in the same room, or chatting with the person next door to discuss what time to go to dinner. If you tend to procrastinate or really rely on your computer, bring one. Iowa State offers as much or as little computer interactivity as the students choose, offering high-tech capabilities, as well as the bare essentials. Whether you choose to bring a computer from home or rely on one of the hundreds of computers on campus, all students get by.

It depends on the time of the day, but there are computers nearly everywhere on campus and WiFi available anywhere on campus. But, I always prefer to have my own computer because you never know when you may need one, and the labs do close.

Labs are crowded all over campus...
Labs are crowded all over campus between 1-3 p.m. regardless of where you go. ISU tries to keep up with the demand, but it gets difficult. Luckily, the building that houses your major usually has a computer lab dedicated to students in that major. The only problem with that is sometimes you need a computer and are across campus or something.

It's very hard to get a good wireless signal in the dorms, but everywhere else is pretty good. The computer labs usually have enough seats open so you can get in and have a choice of computer. You don't need your own computer, but it's nice to have so you don't spend your life in a computer lab.

All of campus is...
All of campus is wireless-enabled—besides the dorms, which I find pretty strange. There are plenty of computer labs on campus, in both dorms and academic buildings. However, I don't know anyone who doesn't have a laptop, so bringing one will be pretty helpful—you don't always want to be running to the computer lab to print your paper and research.

You can easily find a computer to work on. Numerous computer labs are scattered all over campus. Even during midterms and finals, I have found it easy to locate a computer and sufficient work space.
