The drug scene exists at Iowa State, but for students who have no interest in it, it is not very visible. Drugs are accessible to those who want them, but it is rare to see them being used openly. If you are into drugs, you will find friends who can help to hook you up, but the rest don’t need to worry about drug pushers or usage around them. Students keep their habits private, with the exception of alcohol, and there is little threat on campus. If you like large universities but are worried about drugs being prominent, then ISU may be a good choice. Drugs are obtained by having connected friends, so if you don’t wish to partake, chances are that your friends will not either, and you won’t have to worry about it.

The drug scene here at Iowa State...
The drug scene here at Iowa State is not really big. I normally see people smoking, but drinking is a much bigger problem.

It mostly depends on who you hang out with. It's not super noticeable, but if you know what to look for, you can see it.

Like any other college, alcohol is everywhere. The only other drugs I have encountered other than alcohol are pot and prescription meds.

Like any college town, smoking and drinking are fairly common. Weed is, too. I was surprised to learn the hard drugs are common here, too, like cocaine. I'm not sure how people use them and succeed in class. I'm guessing they end up dropping out after a semester or two.

Alcohol Everywhere, Weed Not So Much
A-
Tons of people drink, but I also know a lot of people who don't drink. There aren't many kids who are cool with partying who don't drink, though. There's definitely weed going around, too, but it isn't huge. I know a lot of people who smoke, but only a few who actually own any. Basically, it's there if you look for it, but you'll have to look pretty hard to find a deal.
