Social Scene
Iowa State is large enough that the Greek system does not dominate the social scene for people who are not Greek, nor is Iowa State composed of obnoxious hierarchical cliques. Instead, Iowa State's social scene is exactly what you make of it. No one group really dominates over the others, thanks in part to the University's large size. With that being said, it is easy to find things to do with people you like, and for most students, that's what it's all about. Students are really friendly and approachable, for the most part. You can meet people in classes, working out at the rec, or in restaurants or bars in Campustown. It's a big enough campus that even if someone rejects you, there are still 10,000 other members of the opposite sex.
Hookups or Relationships?
There's a mixture of both at Iowa State—it all depends on what you're looking for. And if you look hard enough, you'll find it at Iowa State. Keep in mind, though, that men outnumber women on this campus. However, Iowa State has many types of people and personalities, so students are bound to find a niche, both for those who really want a relationship, or for those who just want to have a no-strings-attached good time.
Dress Code
There really isn't one at ISU. Students wear whatever feels comfortable to them. This is Iowa, so you'll see your share of Wranglers, boots, and cowboy hats. But not everyone dresses like that. The majority of students wears jeans and T-shirts, but some dress up more, and some dress down more. You'll see a wide range of clothing styles—anything goes on this campus.
