Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Ithaca College is home to some of the best music, communications, and physical therapy programs in the country. With the exploratory program, students who haven’t decided on a major can take a variety of classes to determine their interests. For those who want to design a major, Ithaca offers a planned studies option, where the student works with an adviser to design a program of choice. IC also has numerous study abroad programs, and it has centers in London, LA, and DC. Professors practice in their field, do extensive research, and write books. All have office hours, and many students utilize these to ask questions and get feedback.

With the atmosphere of a small liberal arts college, Ithaca offers a world of possibilities. First-year seminar classes help turn high school seniors into college freshmen, and internships help students get experience in the working world. Through it all, the faculty and staff at IC are ready to assist their students. It is possible to become friends with professors while attending IC, and most students know at least one professor personally by the time they graduate. Once you’re a student, the best thing to do is to have an upperclassman advise you on what classes to take. There’s a good chance that they have either taken the professor for class or know someone who has.

My College Transition

I went to Ithaca because of the excellent music program that is offered there. My personal teacher, as well as other students, are always willing to help people adjust to the new life, and make it a goal to not only teach, but to learn as well. This made my transition into college that much easier, and made my first semester experience all the more enjoyable.

Hit or Miss

In general, 100-level gen eds are often tedious, dull, or sort of a joke, though this isn't always the case. Professors range from terrible to great in those. However, one of IC's strengths is that you start taking a lot of courses in your major freshman year, and in major classes, the professors are great, educated, and passionate. HSHP, the acting program, and Park in particular, have great reputations.
